2 lakh units of Maruti Fronx sold so far; updated model to be launched soon

Launched in the first quarter of 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has now achieved a new sales milestone in India. The micro SUV, which has gained traction for its compact design, feature-rich interiors and efficient engines, has crossed the 2 lakh sales mark in just 17 months since its launch. It became the fastest Nexa SUV to achieve this milestone, followed by the Grand Vitara. In its first year of sales, Maruti Fronx sold a total of 1,34,735 units in FY2024.

Currently, the mini SUV is available in five variants – Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta and Alpha – priced between Rs 7.51 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom). It is offered with two engine options: a 1.0L Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 100 hp and 147 Nm, and a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine with an output of 90 hp. The turbocharged engine is available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, while the 1.2L engine is available with a choice of a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission.

The Indo-Japanese automaker plans to give the Fronx a major update in the form of its own powerful hybrid powertrain. According to media reports, Maruti Suzuki is developing a Self-developed series of hybrid power systemswhich will be used in its mass-market models, including the Fronx, Swift, Brezza and Baleno. The brand’s powerful hybrid technology, codenamed HEV, is expected to be more affordable than Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid system, which powers the Grand Vitara and Invicto.

Scheduled to be launched in 2025, the new Maruti Fronx will feature the Swift’s new Z12E engine and powerful hybrid technology. Its exterior and interior are expected to get minor updates and the automaker is likely to equip it with some additional features. With powerful hybrid technology, the Fronx facelift will be more fuel-efficient but will also be more expensive.

More details on Maruti Suzuki’s powerful hybrid powertrain will be revealed in the near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
