Every Ford Mustang is Subjectively special to its owner. This is a car that is often modified to reflect personality and taste. But what’s special about the 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is that objective meaning of the word.
According to Ford Performance, the Blue Oval’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT) built only 300 Cobra R’s for the 2000 model year. They’re both high-performance red and instantly identifiable by the front splitter, bulging bonnet and high-mounted rear wing. One of their most notable features isn’t visible unless the hood is open: a naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 engine that pumps out 385 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque and roars through the Cobra R’s unique side pipes. SVT combines that output with a TREMEC T-56 six-speed manual transmission and independent rear suspension to make the Cobra R even more nimble on the street and track.
