— The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander hood recall is supposed to fix shuddering and bouncing hoods.
This opinion comes from owners of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, who believe the hood should have prompted a recall soon after the first vehicles were sold.
The hood of the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is said to vibrate and bounce more violently as the driver accelerates.
Outlander hood flutter lawsuit includes:
“Any person or entity purchasing or leasing any 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander in the United States.”
It is said that if the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander hood is not recalled, customers will be forced to drive dangerous vehicles because the hood will vibrate, bounce and distract the driver.
The plaintiffs argue that Mitsubishi knew the hood would flap even before the Outlander was sold.
The class action lawsuit alleges that owners of 2022 Mitsubishi Outlanders noticed hood popping shortly after purchasing the SUV, but dealers allegedly were unable to fix the issues.
According to the plaintiff, several technical service bulletins have been issued regarding the hood, but there is still no 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander hood recall.
The last 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander hood flutter announcement was released in December 2021, titled “Hood flutter modified hood – 2022 Outlander”.
“This technical service bulletin has been sent to dealers to inform them that when customers express concerns about hood chatter, they should replace it with a new modified hood and a new seal.” — TSB-21-42A-011
But in January 2022, Mitsubishi issued a notice to dealers about TSB-21-42A-011.
The notice states, “Vehicles produced after November 11, 2021, which have reinforced hoods installed on the production line, do not need to replace the hood or other previously released TSB hoods. This new hood adds reinforcements and essentially eliminates These vehicles are now arriving at your dealer, so please pay attention to this cleaning point.”
The class action lawsuit claims this “substantially eliminates the judder condition” but “does not completely eliminate the hood defect.”
According to the Outlander hood flutter lawsuit, replacement Mitsubishi hoods may be painted a different color that doesn’t match the rest of the vehicle.
Even fuel economy is said to suffer due to the Outlander’s hood popping.
The plaintiffs argued that Mitsubishi already knew about the defective hood “because its dealers submitted a higher-than-anticipated number of warranty repair claims to Mitsubishi, which should have alerted Mitsubishi that these parts or components were defective.”
However, the lawsuit does not reveal how many hood warranty claims the dealer has filed.
As plaintiffs allege in every auto class action lawsuit:
“Had Plaintiffs and Class Members known about the hood defect, they would not have purchased Class vehicles or would have paid significantly less.”
