  • The new generation Audi Q3 is expected to debut in the coming months.
  • The compact SUV will share the MQB Evo platform with the Cupra Terramar and Volkswagen Tiguan.
  • Expect bolder styling, the latest technology in the cabin, and additional electrification options.

Audi will abandon the facelift of the current Q3 and launch an all-new third-generation model in the coming months. A rival to the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA, the new Q3 will sport an updated design inside and out while leveraging the latest version of the Volkswagen Group’s electrified platform, which is similar to the European-market Volkswagen Tiguan (different from the next-generation Tiguan in the U.S.) Sharing Tramar with Cupra.

Over the past year, multiple prototypes of Audi’s compact SUV have been spotted testing on public roads, gradually losing their camouflage. Inspired by these spy shots, our colleagues have created detailed renderings for the third quarter of 2026, giving us a clear look at what’s to come.

The Q3 will resemble a scaled-down version of the Q6 e-tron, with split headlights with animated matrix LED graphics and a more streamlined single-frame grille. However, unlike the electric model, the Q3’s grille will remain open, suggesting it is powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE).

While the Q3’s sculpted silhouette and roofline will be similar to the Cupra Terramar, Audi will have its own unique front and rear design. This suggests the new Q3 will grow slightly, approaching the dimensions of the Cupra Terramar, which measures 4,519 mm (177.9 inches) compared to the previous Q3’s 4,485 mm (176.6 inches).

Although the standard Q3’s sporty design should satisfy most buyers in this segment, Audi will still offer a Q3 Sportback variant. This coupe-SUV version will feature a redesigned rear and sloping roofline, sacrificing some cargo space for added style and improved aerodynamics.

Inside, the new Q3 is expected to differentiate itself from its Volkswagen and Cupra siblings with a more unique design and upgraded technology. Features are likely to include an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch central touchscreen and an optional 10.9-inch passenger display, similar to the setup found in the all-electric Audi Q4 e-tron. A sophisticated head-up display is also possible.

The new Audi Q3 will not be based on a new platform, but will use an updated version of the previous generation model’s MQB Evo architecture, which is already used by many Volkswagen Group vehicles. Audi’s unique chassis setup will improve ride quality compared to the outgoing Q3.

In terms of powertrain, the Audi Q3 will likely follow the European Volkswagen Tiguan and Cupra Terramar lineup. This means it will be available with mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, petrol and diesel options, albeit with a greater focus on electrification than its predecessor.

For the Q3, power is expected to range from 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) in the entry-level 1.5-liter mild hybrid, up to 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS). PS) for the flagship PHEV and has a zero-emission range of over 100 km (62 mph). Hopefully the performance-focused RS Q3 will usher in a new generation, with the turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine making its final appearance.

The Audi Q3’s competitors are not limited to Germany’s BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. Other players in the premium compact SUV segment include Japan’s Lexus UX/NX, Italy’s Alfa Romeo Tonale, Sweden’s Volvo XC40 and the UK’s Range Rover Evoque. In addition, it may face indirect competition from similarly priced electric SUVs, including those from China.

The second-generation Audi Q3 was launched in 2018, and the Q3 Sportback will be launched in 2019. This means that the SUV will be discontinued just six years after its launch and replaced by a significantly improved version. The new model may be the last Q3 to feature an internal combustion engine until Audi fully commits to electric vehicles.

Production of the new Q3 and Q3 Sportback will take place at Audi’s Gyor plant in Hungary, alongside the Cupra Terramar. A public debut in Europe is expected in the coming months, with a North American release likely in 2026.
