Autohunter Spotlight: 1968 Pontiac Firebird
AutoHunter Spotlight: 1968 Pontiac Firebird

for the first time i realized I saw the Pontiac Firebird while watching the TV show "Booker" in the 1980s. I don't know why it took me until 1989 to mentally register this model. Maybe it's because Pontiac (aside from the black Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit) isn't a brand that piques my interest. To me, Booker's Blue Firebird takes everything that was great about the first-generation Chevrolet Camaro and improves it on styling. Since then, the first-generation Firebird has been my favorite production pony car, second only to the 1965-1967 Shelby Mustangs, cars that really can't be considered "production" cars. This 1968 Pontiac Firebird appears on AutoHunter, an online auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com. The Firebird you see here is powered by a 350 V8 engine and a two-speed automatic transmission. The car comes from the seller complete with cover, battery can, original removed speedometer, spare parts and New York license plates. The exterior of this Firebird…

Pick Of The Day: 2000 Bmw Z3
Pick of the Day: 2000 BMW Z3

let me start I said I love the BMW Z3 and I personally own one, so I'm a bit biased towards these cars. In fact, I think the Z3 is the best modern version of an old roadster ever made. Yes, Mazda still sells Miatas, but a 20-plus-year-old Z3 still feels better than any Miata I've driven (especially the interior). That's my opinion, but it's based on spending a lot of time in each vehicle. The Z3's materials were better, the car felt more solid, and the options far exceeded what Mazda was offering at the time. The reason is simple: the Z3 is a much more expensive car than the Miata, and the BMW can do things the Mazda can't do at the same price point. BMW's main focus was that while this car was powered by the M44 1.9 liter I4, a number of really great BMW I6 engines soon followed, making the Z3 a car with more…

Autohunter Spotlight: 1967 Chevrolet Nova Hardtop
AutoHunter Spotlight: 1967 Chevrolet Nova Hardtop

Chevrolet Nova Located in an interesting spot in the world of collectible cars. Novas aren't as desirable as Chevelles, nor as valuable as Olds Cutlass or Buick Skylark, but their capabilities are very similar to those cars' capabilities. They're just as fun to drive and easy to maintain, but cost a lot less. They are what my Nova-loving friends call the "bread and butter" American collector cars. This 1967 Chevrolet Nova appears on AutoHunter, an online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com. The seller describes this 1967 Chevrolet Nova as a fully restored two-door hardtop powered by a 327ci V8 engine and four-speed manual transmission. The car is finished in blue with a black vinyl top covering a black vinyl interior. During this car's restoration, it received some welcome upgrades, including a rebuilt engine and new parts like a high-lift cam, Weiand aluminum intake manifold, Demon four-barrel carburetor, gear-driven timing systems, aluminum radiators and aluminum and chrome cosmetic items. The car…

The Hilton Head Island Race Is The Perfect End To The Event
The Hilton Head Island Race is the perfect end to the event

This year marks the 22nd edition of the Hilton Head Island Elegance and Automobile Festival. I have had the pleasure of attending and serving as a judge in Hilton Head for the past 14 years, and during that time I have seen the show grow from a great local/regional event to something even more exciting. This is new race chairman Chris Brewer's first year officially at the helm of the event, and he has elevated the event to one of the top five races in the country this year. Also somehow able to capture the friendly "low country" feel that has been a staple since the beginning. One of the winners of the Grand Motoring Festival Photo Contest photographed by Deremer Studios, LLC The four-day event kicked off with the Grand Motoring Film Festival, where more than 30 films, both feature and short, competed to win in their respective categories. My favorite movie this week is a movie about BMW's…

Pick Of The Day: 2003 Bmw Alpina Roadster V8
Pick of the Day: 2003 BMW Alpina Roadster V8

last week i got Get the chance to drive an amazing car during the Hilton Head Racing Weekend. The car is an Alpina V8 Roadster. Yes, this car is a BMW Z8, but when it was built in Alpina form, it was called a V8 Roadster. It has all the incredible hand-built quality of the standard Z8, but changes the suspension, engine, wheels, gearbox and some internal parts to Alpina-supplied parts. The springs inside are the same as the regular Z8, but the shock absorbers have different valving for a more comfortable ride, and the engine isn't the S62 from the E39 M5, but a heavily modified M62 V8 - the house of Alpina. Additionally, it doesn’t have a six-speed manual gearbox, but a five-speed automatic. While this sounds bad, it actually makes this RV more practical and easier to drive in day-to-day use. Total production of the Alpina V8 roadster version of the Z8 was only 555 units, making…

Autohunter Spotlight: 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Sedan
AutoHunter Spotlight: 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Sedan

Chevrolet Corvair is, In my opinion, this is an amazing car, especially for an American car made in the 1960s. Created under the management of Ed Cole and designed by Bill Mitchell, it was unlike any car produced by the Big Three American car companies. The Corvair features a rear-mounted aluminum inline 6-cylinder engine, four-wheel independent suspension, and a unitized body structure. GM took these ideas from European small cars and spent millions of dollars designing the car. The launch of the car brought great success to the brand and earned it accolades. It appeared on the cover of Time magazine and was named Motor Trend's 1960 Car of the Year. A few years later this book Not safe at any speed Great pains are taken to demonize the Corvair, but much of the book is absolute nonsense. The Corvair is a fun, sporty car with a great owner community and parts that are not only available but affordable. These…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

The C3 Corvette still exists My favorite generation of "American sports cars". Yes, I know every car before it was more valuable, and reviews of C3 cars tend to be less positive, but when I think of what a Corvette looks like, the C3 is what I picture in my mind. In fact, the C3 Corvette's styling was so good that it even influenced the C4, C5 and C6 models. If you doubt that, ask Ed Welburn, GM's former vice president of global design, and he'll put you right. This 1969 Chevrolet Corvette coupe featured on AutoHunter is considered by many to be the C3's best year. This 1969 Corvette is described as having a 454ci V8 engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It's finished in Daytona Yellow over black vinyl interior and is now available from the selling dealer with a clear title. Daytona Yellow is the original color of this car. You can tell by looking at…

Pick of the Day: 1975 AMC Hornet

What is the cheapest Can you buy a James Bond car? Well, you know it's not an Aston Martin DB5, or a BMW Z8, or even a Lotus Esprit. Prices for all of these cars range from about $50,000 to about $1 million. There yes cars used in james bond movies and One of the most incredible 007 stunts of the 1970s: AMC Bumblebee. The Daily Pick is one of those cars, a 1975 AMC Hornet located in California and listed on ClassicCars.com. The example we have here is the exact same color combination used in The Man with the Golden Gun. The seller describes this Hornet as having the original six-cylinder engine that was refurbished in 2020 and paired with a three-speed Torque Command automatic transmission. They added that the car has a new paint job and a redone factory-correct interior. The car needs a carburetor gasket replaced, but the tires are new. When all was said and done,…

2016 Aston Martin Vantage Gts
2016 Aston Martin Vantage GTS

for those of you Those of you who know me or have read my stories probably know by now that my favorite car brand is Aston Martin. Yes, I know I'm obsessed with BMW, but the Aston brand has a mythology and history that, to me, is unmatched by any other carmaker in automotive history. Sure, Ferraris are powerful, especially in terms of mythology, but owning and driving or just simply staring at an Aston is another story entirely. Additionally, although Astons are comparable to Ferraris in most aspects, used Astons almost always sell for much less, making the brand even more attractive. The Daily Pick is one of them, a 2016 Aston Martin Vantage GTS coupe at a dealership in Costa Mesa, California. The story of the modern Aston Martin Vantage began in 2003 with the debut of the AMV8 Vantage at the North American International Auto Show. It was well received by journalists and potential owners alike, and…

The theme of the fifth annual Chattanooga Car Festival is

many people say The car hobby isn't really about the cars, it's about the people who own them. No event I can think of exemplifies this better than the Chattanooga Car Festival. The event is the brainchild of Byron DeFoor and Brian Johnson. From the beginning, their focus was different. Rather than being held on a traditional golf course, it's held in the downtown Chattanooga area. Some people enjoy seeing cars on a golf course, but personally, it's nice to see cars in a well-displayed, well-curated way on a downtown street (which is a more natural setting for them) Special. The three-day Chattanooga Car Festival kicks off Friday, October 11, with a small gathering of cars, workshops with the likes of Patrick Long and Jeff Zwart, live music and street vendors. The car clubs came together on Saturday for the first ever full layout of the Porsche-themed Luftgekühlt, with a carefully curated display of dozens of Ferraris, as well as…

Pick Of The Day: 2006 Bmw M5
Pick of the Day: 2006 BMW M5

i have a lot of experience Along with the E60 BMW M5. The press conference for the new 2005 M5 in the United States was the first BMW media conference I attended. It was held near Lime Rock Park Raceway in Connecticut, and we had the opportunity to drive it on the track as well as on some amazing nearby roads. Powered by the new 500-horsepower S85 5.0-liter V10 engine, the M5 is a BMW model that journalists attending the event have never seen before. The engine is an absolute gem and the SMG transmission shifts faster than any manual gearbox without any lag and delivers some incredible performance figures. The M5 features BMW's new adaptive suspension, which can be adjusted to various modes from Comfort mode to a track-ready Sport+ setting. It's a masterpiece of technology and performance. The figures BMW gave us at the time were a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds (very quick for that era) and…

1979 Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe
1979 Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe

early 1990sI work in the film industry as a production coordinator and my daily driver is a Porsche 911 coupe. For that job, I needed a car that could carry more than two people and be decent, but not great enough also OK You see, one of my additional duties as production coordinator was to pick up cast and crew at various airports and bring them to hotels near where we were filming. As a car enthusiast, I wanted something unique and reliable, something stylish but affordable and well-made. It was a hard combination to find, but after weeks of searching, I finally found a Volvo 262C Bertone coupe. This proved to be an excellent choice as the 262C was comfortable, could accommodate cast or crew luggage, had a luxurious interior, and the styling always seemed to turn heads, especially for those who love cars. explain. I remember picking up Bill Paxton from the airport while filming Tombstone and our…

2005 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Convertible
2005 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Convertible

from the beginning Porsche cars have always been a very popular choice in my car collecting hobby. To illustrate this point, the second car I owned was a 1968 912 Targa. There are several reasons why Porsches are so popular. First, they have a long racing tradition, with multiple wins and championships in every sports car series around the world, and driven by some of the world's most famous drivers. Secondly, Porsche cars have very high build quality. Finally, they are very reliable and always seem to work. Featured on AutoHunter is this 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Convertible. It's for sale by a private seller in St. Marys, Georgia; the auction ends Thursday. This 2005 911 is from the end of the 996 generation and has traveled approximately 51,000 miles since new. Seller provides including owner's manual, service records, window sticker, CARFAX report, and clear title. The exterior of this 911 Carrera 4 looks to be in excellent condition.…

Review: 2024 Bmw X6 Xdrive 40I
Review: 2024 BMW X6 xDrive 40i

past I have personally owned a BMW X3 for about 10 years and currently own a 2018 X5 M Sport. Additionally, I've driven the brilliant X5M, X1 and the ridiculously fast MX on the street and track. However, until now I haven't had time to drive the more crossover-focused X-Class BMW vehicles. About 4 weeks ago, BMW loaned me an X6 to drive for a week to get a feel for what the other X-Class vehicles were like. During the week, I took it with me to run errands and also drove to Maine to visit the Maine Classic Car Museum, where I served as their collection consultant. BMW calls the X6 a midsize coupe SUV. Although the name seems strange at first glance, it is an SUV and actually has 4 doors, but it does look more like a coupe in terms of driving dynamics and appearance. The car I borrowed was an Aventurin Red Metallic 2024 model with…

Autohunter Spotlight: 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Rs
AutoHunter Spotlight: 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS

To me, the best Camaro ever The most advanced ever is the second generation model with the RS head. This car combines everything that was great about the original Camaro and adds stunning European styling that has never been improved upon, as well as more interior creature comforts. It was an instant hit and its basic design remained in use until 1981. While the Mustang grew in size during the era and became more of a luxury car, the Camaro never lost its way and became—for me—the best pony car of the 1970s. . Our AutoHunter spotlight is on one of these great cars, the 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS. The selling dealer describes the car as a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Rally Sport, powered by a supposedly matching 350ci Turbo-Fire V8 engine mated to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic transmission. The exterior looks great, with yellow and black stripes replacing the original's classic copper color (Code 67). It features a…

Pick Of The Day: 1987 Bmw 325I Convertible
Pick of the Day: 1987 BMW 325i Convertible

this Daily Picks is a 1987 BMW 325i Convertible listed on ClassicCars.com by a North Carolina dealer. The other night I watched a new movie called Shoplifters on Amazon Prime Video and it immediately reminded me of the first time I drove a BMW 3 Series. It was done because it's a movie about a group of friends and what they did on the day the Smiths broke up. You may be wondering why this reminds me of the BMW Ultimate Tanner. That's why. The Smiths are my favorite band of all time, a band that seems to appeal to me more than any other band in the world. When I heard about their breakup on MTV, I was very upset. I moped around all day listening to their tapes at a local record store, finally arriving back at my apartment at dusk. That night, one of my best friends drove up to my college apartment in his brand new…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1979 Pontiac Trans Am

FeaturedAutomatic Hunteran online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is this low-mileage 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. The Pontiac Trans Am was the dream car of American muscle car enthusiasts in the 1970s and 1980s, thanks in large part to its performance in the movie Cannonball Run. In an era of mediocre performance, it was one of the few cars that still waved the performance flag. It looked fast, and it actually went pretty fast. In addition to its straight-line performance, it also handled pretty well. The Trans Am featured in AutoHunter Spotlight has only traveled 45,000 miles since new and appears to be in excellent condition. It is powered by a 403ci V8 engine and is mated to a three-speed Turbo Hydra-matic 350 automatic transmission. Finished in Sun Gold with a white vinyl interior, this Trans Am is being offered by the selling dealer with vehicle papers, build sheet, and clear proof of ownership. The exterior of this Trans Am is…

Pick Of The Day: 1969 Triumph Bonneville
Pick of the Day: 1969 Triumph Bonneville

this Daily Selection This is a 1969 Triumph Bonneville listed on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Wisconsin. For me, of all the British motorcycles from the 1960s, the Bonneville is an icon of the era. It has a racing pedigree and has been featured in movies and TV shows. In many ways, it is the quintessential classic British motorcycle - so much so that the new Triumph company released a modern version of the "Bonnie" in 2001. I have owned many British motorcycles over the years, and the Bonneville has always met my expectations of British motorcycles. They are fast and fun to ride, and they are light and easy to handle, especially compared to newer motorcycles. They also have a great exhaust sound, just like the sound of a World War I fighter plane. The Bonneville name dates back to 1956, when John Allen set a world speed record of 214.40 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats on a…

Autohunter Spotlight: 2005 Cadillac Xlr
AutoHunter Spotlight: 2005 Cadillac XLR

Featured Automatic Hunteran online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is this 2005 Cadillac XLR. The Cadillac XLR is a fascinating car. Unlike the Allante that Cadillac introduced decades ago, the XLR is a stunning design, designed by my friend Kip Wasenko, that takes the strongest parts of Cadillac's design language and puts them all into the design of a luxury GT car. The XLR has a very nice body and is based on the C6 Corvette chassis, so it has an excellent foundation. In fact, the XLR was built at the same time as the C6 Corvette at GM's plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The problem at the time was that it was priced very close to the Mercedes SL500 and Jaguar XK8, which led many buyers to choose the European car over the new American one. This is a shame because the XLR is a fantastic GT car and is very rare, with only 15,460 produced in total. In…

Daily Picks: 1998 Mercedes-Benz Sl500
Daily Picks: 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500

Last weekend At the Radnor Hunt Antique Car Show in Pennsylvania, I had the opportunity to test drive my friend Tim McNair's Mercedes-Benz SL500. This was exciting because, up until that point, I had only put about 10 miles on one. I had heard about how good they were, but I had yet to truly experience one. The SL500 that Tim had was a great example, with only 25,000 original miles on it, and was a great example of how a good SL500 should drive. I have to tell you, the SL500 is a near-perfect 1990s GT car. It's the kind of car you can take to local car shows, Mercedes club events, work, or even off-road. It's built and finished to perfection, and these cars drive just as well as their fans say they do. If there's a better deal on a high-end convertible European GT, I can't think of one that does. Our pick for today is one…

Daily Pick: 1966 Volvo 1800S
Daily Pick: 1966 Volvo 1800S

this Daily Selection It's a 1966 Volvo 1800S, listed on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Pennsylvania. Before I talk myself into buying this car, buy it. As some of you may know, I used to own a 1966 Volvo 1800S. Mine was white with a black leather interior and Minilite style alloy wheels. I even restored it. I also took my 1800S on two cross-country trips, once from California and once back to California for Monterey Car Week, where I sold it to a guy down the street and turned it in to them the Monday after a week of festivities. I should never have sold it. Image credit: Volvo Cars My love for the Volvo 1800S is closely tied to the British TV show The Saint. I loved the show as a teenager and this car was as much a part of the show as Sir Roger Moore. Every week, his character, Simon Templer, would go on spy-like adventures,…

Fast Ford And Award-Winning Porsche
Fast Ford and award-winning Porsche

Over 40 yearsEvery Labor Day weekend, Lakeville, Connecticut’s classic cars compete at the Lime Rock Park Raceway to celebrate the world of classic cars. The main part of the race took place on the track, with drivers from the 1920s to the early 2000s trying their best to cross the finish line first. On Friday I came to the track and met up with my friend Bradley Price, founder of Autodromo Watches. He designed the Lime Rock Park Edition Prototipo chronograph to celebrate Lime Rock and this historic festival and brought one to me at the track while he was driving his Alfa Romeo. I soon found him and his Giulietta afterwards. He presented me with a watch with "JUDGE" engraved on the case back, since I was a judge on Sunday. It's a great watch. If you're a fan of Lime Rock and cool racing-style watches, you should act fast, because there are only a few of the 125…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30

Featured Automatic Hunter, Up for auction on the online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com is this 1969 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30 coupe. The Olds 4-4-2 is a legend in the muscle car world and one of the most famous muscle cars to ever wear the Oldsmobile badge. For some models, the 4-4-2 name came from the fact that the car had a four-barrel carburetor, a four-speed transmission, and dual exhaust pipes. Originally, it was an option on the Oldsmobile Cutlass, but it became its own model in 1968 - still based on the Cutlass. For those who may notice that the car shown here is listed as a 4-4-2, please note that the early cars had 4-4-2 badges with dashes between the numbers, and in 1968 the badge was changed to 442 without the dashes. Despite this change, advertisements for these cars still listed them as 4-4-2s, which is why I included the dashes in this list. The 4-4-2 had several…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1963 Chrysler 300-J

Featured Car Hunter Networkan online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is this 1963 Chrysler 300-J. The Chrysler 300 series sedans in many ways created the muscle car market, although the 300 series was very different from them. Unlike mid-range spec models, they were top-of-the-line models with many standard features that weren't even optional on later muscle cars. Of all the 300 "letter" cars, the 300-J is extremely rare, with only 400 built during the 1963 production run. The J cars also stood out because they featured Chrysler's top-spec twin-quad 413ci Firepower V8 engines that produced 390 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and 485 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. This gave the car incredible performance for the time, with a tested top speed of 142 mph, a 0-60 mph time of 8.0 seconds, and the ability to run the quarter mile in 15.8 seconds. This 1963 300-J is described as being powered by the original "FirePower 390" 413ci V8 engine, mated…

2013 Bmw M3 Lime Rock Park Edition
2013 BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Edition

I am often asked I have often thought that a car will go up in value in today's market. There are all kinds of cars in the collector car market, and I think the BMW E92 series M3 will absolutely go up in value. I am so convinced of this that I am planning to buy one, which will not only be a fun collector car, but also a 401K type car. I like these cars for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is the only M3 road car ever to feature a naturally aspirated V8 engine, which many consider to be the true pinnacle of classic BMW M car development. Unlike the newer M cars, it truly is a car that is both suitable for commuting and racing. Secondly, the design continues to amaze me with how good it looks. From the vents on either side of the front fenders, to the massive hood bulge, to the cowl-style rear…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1969 Plymouth Road Runner

Featured Car Hunter Networkan online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is auctioning this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. The Road Runner is one of the true icons of the Mopar muscle car. By the late 1960s, the perception of muscle cars as cheap performance cars had changed, and over the years these cars became increasingly expensive. Plymouth introduced the Road Runner as a return to a simpler, more basic, more affordable high-performance midsize car. Plymouth paid Warner Bros. $50,000 for the use of the Road Runner name, the "beep" horn, and the cartoon characters of Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. In addition, Plymouth paid $10,000 to develop the horn. The Road Runner featured here is powered by a reportedly numbers-matching 383ci V8 engine mated to a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission. It's finished in special-order Omaha Orange paint with a black vinyl interior and is being offered now by the selling dealer with a clear title. The car features power…

MINI to Monterey: Day 5

MINI agreed to lend it to me A 2025 Cooper S so I can put in 3,100 miles to cover the events of Monterey Car Week. Follow the entire series here. So I decided to limit my trip for the day so it would be easier to stop at things to see along the way rather than just driving a few miles on Interstate 80. I had no real plan, but it turned out there was a lot to do and some fun photo opportunities. After leaving Salt Lake City, Utah, I took a detour to the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the fastest men on earth hope to set records. The Bonneville track is home to almost every famous racer in the world. This place is definitely haunted and has a really cool vibe. There was some testing going on at the time, but the officials were kind enough to let me stop by the sign for a cool photo.…

From MINI to Monterrey: Day 4

MINI agreed to lend it to me A 2025 Cooper S so I can put in 3,100 miles to cover the events of Monterey Car Week. Follow the entire series here. The distance from Lincoln, Nebraska to Salt Lake City, Utah is 876 miles. According to the onboard navigation, it takes a total of 12 hours and 18 minutes before stopping. It's a long day, but the new 2025 MINI Cooper S handles it with ease. This is largely thanks to the truly excellent driver assistance options on the car. As long as you keep your hands on the wheel, it does a great job of keeping in lane, the adaptive cruise control doesn't follow too close or too far, and adjusts speed just as if I were operating it manually. Did I mention that on top of that, the new MINI averaged 77 mph and got an amazing 42 mpg?!? Today I was on Interstate 80 in Nebraska and…

From MINI to Monterrey: Day 3

MINI agreed to lend it to me A 2025 Cooper S so I can put in 3,100 miles to cover the events of Monterey Car Week. Follow the entire series here. The photo says it all. I spent most of today in the middle of nowhere in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. At the end of the day, I saw a large convenience store in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the sign that read "You're Not Going Anywhere" perfectly summed up my day's driving and most of the places I passed. Reflection of truck I started at 6am and basically spent the entire day on I-80, just driving a few miles and stopping at rest areas occasionally. Afterwards, I went to a truck stop and had lunch at Arby's. The staff was very friendly and the food was great. I was looking forward to reaching Omaha, Nebraska, where I would meet up with my best friend Trent Abbott at his garage and…

MINI agreed to lend it to me A 2025 Cooper S so I can put 3,100 miles on it and cover the events of Monterey Car Week. Click here to read part one of this series. Sorry for not posting about Day 1. The drive to Scranton, PA was boring and there were no detours. The photo below was taken when I arrived at the Fairfield Inn, where I seem to stay at least once a year. The next morning started at 6am with a quick breakfast waffle and a Diet Coke before setting off for South Bend, Indiana. The ride started out uneventful, but I was glad to have the adaptive cruise control and lane assist, which seemed to make the miles fly by on I- 80. Both worked extremely well and definitely helped ease traffic on the interstate. After refueling, I quickly called my friend Brandon Anderson, executive director and CEO of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.…

Driving The 2025 Mini Cooper S 3,100 Miles To Monterey
Driving the 2025 MINI Cooper S 3,100 miles to Monterey

No, I'm not crazy. I’m heading to Monterey Car Week in the all-new 2025 MINI Cooper S. I was given the opportunity, and since I’ve driven to Monterey a dozen times over the years, I figured why not? Sixth Monterey Road Trip Second Monterey Road Trip I'm sure this will be the most relaxing road trip to Monterey, as every car I drive to the event is at least 25 years old. This includes a 1973 Ferrari Daytona, a 1966 Volvo 1800S, a 1968 Fiat 124 Spider, a 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6, a Bentley Turbo, an Aston Martin DB7, and most recently, a 1984 Porsche 944. With this list of cars, you can understand why I'm not nervous about driving this year. What I'm really looking forward to is good air conditioning, comfortable seats, incredible fuel efficiency, and most importantly, no worries of getting stranded in the middle of Nevada if the car breaks down. The new 2025 MINI Cooper…

Daily Pick: 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda
Daily Pick: 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda

I won't bury Here's the intro to my pick of the day. This 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda is one of the most beautiful cars on the planet and the best I've ever seen. I had the pleasure of judging this car in person a few years ago at the Future Classic Car Show (now the Future Collectible Car Show) during Arizona Auction Week and was blown away by the restoration. If that wasn't enough, two other judges on my team are renowned classic car restorers who were just as blown away by this car as I was (here's how we judged this car). The sellers of this car spared no expense in restoring it. According to them, this 1970 Cuda was a fairly well-known race car in the Chicago area when it was new. During its racing days, the car was maroon, but you can still see its original Limelight Green paint color under the carpet and in parts of the…

2001 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible
2001 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible

Featured Car Hunter Networkan online auction platform operated by ClassicCars.com, is this 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Over the past 10 years, prices for both new and used Porsche 911s have been rising. A car that cost $15,000 10 years ago now often sells for three times that much. The reason is simple. In the world of European collectible sports cars, the Porsche 911 is an easy button to push. They are reliable, extremely fun to drive, perform well, and are probably the most reliable car in their class. Just worked. Among all the 911 models, there is also a fairly affordable version: the 996, which was produced from 1999 to 2006. This was the first water-cooled version of the 911 and was also the most advanced 911 model at the time. Porsche produced a total of 175,262 996s of various models, which in my opinion is the definition of a successful model, but to this day people like to…

Autohunter Spotlight: 1989 Ferrari 348Tb
AutoHunter Spotlight: 1989 Ferrari 348TB

Featured Automatic Hunter, Online auction platform ClassicCars.com is auctioning this 1989 Ferrari 348TB. The 348 has had a bad reputation over the years. People complained about its styling, performance, reliability, etc. You name it, people complained about it. A few years ago, a couple of interesting things happened. First, people started spending time driving the 348 and discovered it was a really fun, completely analog car. There was no automatic option, no traction or stability control, and the 348 had manual rack-and-pinion steering. It was the last truly analog V8 Ferrari road car, and people were finally looking at it in a different light. The second thing was the nostalgia for 1980s cars. People started celebrating things like cheese grater sides and pop-up headlights. In fact, some very smart people in the collector car world started an event called RADwood to showcase cars from the 1980s and 1990s. All of a sudden, the 348 went from zero to hero. Prices…
