BMW India Sales 2024 – Automotive Growth and Challenges in Other Regions

BMW India reported sales of 15,012 units in 2024, a growth of 12.85% over 2023. Average monthly sales rose to 1,251 units, reflecting stable customer demand. Sales in 2023 will be 13,303 units, an increase of 18.06% from 2022’s 11,268 units. The momentum over the years points to continued expansion of the market.

BMW Group’s performance in India in 2024 shows its best year yet. The Group’s BMW, MINI and Motorrad divisions delivered a total of 24,022 vehicles, an overall increase of 4.72%. BMW sales were 15,012 units, a year-on-year increase of 12.85%; MINI sales were 709 units, a year-on-year decrease of 18.41%. BMW motorcycle sales were 8,301 units, a year-on-year decrease of 5.33%.

BMW India posts record Q4 2024

Quarterly and monthly sales figures show BMW India’s growth momentum. The company reported that sales in the fourth quarter reached a record high of 4,958 vehicles, an increase of 15% from the previous year; sales in the third quarter of 2024 reached a record high. In December 2024, monthly sales reached a record high of 2,244 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 17%.

Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) have played a key role in the success of BMW India. These vehicles account for 56% of BMW’s total vehicle sales, equivalent to 8,351 vehicles in 2024. Models such as the BMW X5 and BMW X7 played an important role, with X5 sales increasing by 89% to a total of 2,056 units. BMW X7 added 1,570 units, an increase of 4%.

From i7 to scooter: BMW electric cars

BMW’s electric vehicle (EV) portfolio has expanded significantly, with 1,249 units delivered in 2024. This brings the cumulative sales of electric vehicles to 3,000 units. A steady shift towards sustainable transport solutions. Six electric cars and two scooters were the main contributors, including popular products such as the BMW i7 and iX.

Luxury car sales increased 8% to a total of 2,507 units. Sales of models such as the BMW 7 Series were 865 units, an increase of 15%. The BMW M340i is also in high demand, with 875 units sold in 2024. These figures highlight the strong customer preference for premium cars in the Indian market.

MINI Cooper S stands out amid falling sales

MINI’s performance in 2024 was led by the 3-door Cooper S, which grew by 77% and reached a total of 250 units. While overall MINI sales are down, the model’s performance points to niche but strong demand for compact luxury cars.

BMW Motorrad sales will drop from 8,768 units in 2023 to 8,301 units in 2024, a decrease of 467 units along the way.

Leadership, Strategy and Sales

From 2009 to 2024, BMW India’s total vehicle sales were 139,012 units. The figures reflect the company’s growing footprint in the luxury car market. During this period, despite market fluctuations, sales averaged 8,688 vehicles throughout the year, a consistent performance.

In 2020, economic turmoil caused sales to drop to 6,092 vehicles, a significant decrease of 32.31%. The recovery was obvious in 2021, with 8,236 units sold, an increase of 35.19%. Likewise, after a strong performance in 2018 with sales of 10,405 units, sales fell by 13.50% in 2019 to 9,000 units. This volatility reflects the challenges and opportunities in the luxury automotive sector.
