BMW M4 driver overtakes police at 134mph, then talks his way out

  • An Arkansas law enforcement officer gave chase after a car sped past him at 134 mph.
  • When he lost sight of the car for several minutes, he stumbled upon a BMW M4 parked on the side of the road.
  • During interrogation, the driver of the BMW admitted that he had been speeding earlier.

Honesty is not always easy to come by these days. Still, sometimes it’s found in the strangest places. This was especially true for a law enforcement officer from Arkansas after questioning the driver of a BMW M4. Despite being under no obligation to do so, the driver of the M4 admitted that he overtook the police officer at speeds exceeding 130 mph (210 km/h).

Let’s go back to the beginning of this story. Late at night on October 5, Arkansas police officer Randall Schwab was sitting on the side of the highway when a car passed him, reportedly going 134 mph (216 km/h). Schwab gave chase, but the car involved immediately turned off its lights and fled so fast that it was almost immediately out of Schwab’s sight.

Officers searched the vehicle for approximately four minutes before finding a black BMW M4 parked in a parking space in the car park. They surrounded the vehicle and began asking questions of the driver. He claimed he stopped to get something to eat. Police took his license and documents and began investigating.

More than an hour passed as police tried to find witnesses and evidence on dash cam footage to prove it was indeed the same car that sped past them. They then told the driver they “had what they needed” despite admitting via bodycam (away from the BMW driver) that they couldn’t confirm what car it was based on the dashcam footage.

They told the driver that based on his answers he would be “in a lot of trouble,” and then “your black license plate really gives it all away. Your taillights really give it all away. My video shows me all of those things,” Sgt. Schwab said. After a while, the suspect admitted that it was indeed him.

Kudos to the driver for his honesty, although in this case it did nothing to help his driving record. Schwab arrested the man and sent him to jail. If the driver simply refuses to answer questions, the police may lose the evidence they need to prove that this is indeed the driver of the speeding car.
