F1: Ferrari to supply engines to Cadillac team

Ferrari has confirmed a multi-year deal to supply power units and gearboxes to Andretti Formula Racing’s Cadillac-branded F1 team, which is scheduled to debut in 2026. Andretti Global, with support from General Motors, has received provisional approval from Formula 1 to join the team for 2026, pending final confirmation. The team, which competes under the Cadillac banner, will initially rely on Ferrari power units to close the gap until General Motors is scheduled to develop its own power unit in 2028. The partnership marks a major shift for Andretti, who previously had a deal with Renault. However, recent changes to the F1 landscape, including Renault’s decision to discontinue power unit supplies, have prompted teams to reassess their strategies. The partnership between Ferrari and Andretti Global highlights the growing global appeal of the sport and the strategic alliance formed ahead of this exciting new chapter.

Ferrari said in a statement: “Ferrari NV today announces the signing of a multi-year agreement with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, starting in 2026, which involves providing leadership to TWG Global and General Motors. Racing LLC supplies power units and gearboxes to the racing team and complies with the regulations of the Andretti Formula Racing LLC has received written confirmation from the FIA ​​– F1 that its participation in the 2026 FIA Formula 1 Championship has been accepted and approve.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said: “At a time when Formula 1 is growing in popularity in the United States, it is great to see the commitment of another American team with the support of one of the most respected brands in the automotive industry. We are therefore delighted. Being able to supply the team with our power units and gearboxes as the basis for this technical collaboration means that we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship, which will bring all the benefits to Ferrari’s internal technology development. .

F1 entries expanded to 11 teams

Cadillac, backed by General Motors (GM), will join Formula One in 2026 as the 11th team. This marks General Motors’ official entry into the sport, and Cadillac will join the other teams in the championship.

At the end of 2023, Michael Andretti’s organization announced its intention to enter F1 and participate in the FIA’s tender process. Michael, son of former Formula One driver and 1978 world champion Mario Andretti, led the bid. Andretti’s proposal met the FIA’s requirements and it was submitted to Formula 1’s governing body (FOM) for further review.

Although FOM rejected Andretti’s bid, GM was encouraged to explore its own path to Formula One. As part of this new direction, Andretti continues to expand its facilities in Silverstone, the UK and the US, while recruiting experienced figures such as Graeme Lowden and Pat Symonds. Mario Andretti (Mario Andretti) will also serve as a director on the team’s board of directors, responsible for overseeing the project through the 2026 season.
