— Ford EcoBoost engine recalls and other actions help end federal investigation into Ford and Lincoln’s 2.7L EcoBoost engine failures.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into engine failures in the Ford Mustang following customer petitions to investigate the engine ( here , here , and here ).
Ford says the EcoBoost engine failed due to a broken intake valve, and the Broncos aren’t the only affected models.
NHTSA is aware of 396 customer complaints (including field reports), 825 warranty claims and 936 engine replacements.
Ford recalled these vehicles equipped with EcoBoost engines in August because the intake valves cracked while driving, causing complete engine failure.

EcoBoost recall covers more than 90,000 vehicles in the U.S.
Recall repairs include an inspection at the dealer to determine the vehicle’s engine life cycle. If the vehicle does not reach the lifetime engine cycle threshold, the dealer will implement a high RPM engine cycle accumulation program.
This should show if the vehicle is equipped with a defective intake valve. Any vehicle that fails the accumulation process will receive a new engine.
In addition, Ford has launched customer satisfaction campaign 24N12 to offer an extended warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever is earlier.
NHTSA has closed its investigation into Ford EcoBoost engine failures based on Ford’s recall and extended warranty.
