The upcoming Hero Xoom 160 will cater to a niche market and compete with the likes of the Yamaha Aerox 155

Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, is expanding its product portfolio to produce higher capacity vehicles. In the motorcycle segment, the company has launched the Mavrick 440. Hero Xtreme 250R and XMR 250 are also in development. In the scooter segment, Hero will launch the Xoom 160 ADV style scooter.

New Hero Xoom 160 – Main Highlights

While maxi scooters are popular in other Asian markets, they have failed to attract a huge following in India. However, with changing consumer preferences, new products like the Hero Xoom 160 could have huge potential in the future. As of now, there are limited options in this segment, such as the Yamaha Aerox 155. Hero will look to offer a similar experience to the Aerox while ensuring that its first 160cc scooter is available at an affordable price.

The latest spy photos show that most of the features are the same as those shown by Hero in January last year. Some of the key highlights include dual-LED headlights with LED DRLs, large windscreen, ADV-style front beak and muscular body paneling. The turn signals are halogen lamps. The seats look comfortable and there are thick armrests for pillion riders. Features like the upswept exhaust pipe and dual-purpose tires indicate that the Hero Xoom 160 will be capable of handling light to moderate off-road tracks.

Keyless entry, digital instrument cluster

Hero Xoom 160 is mainly targeted at the younger generation and offers a host of advanced features. The scooter, for example, has a completely keyless setup. Handle lock/unlock and ignition on/off are operated via the key fob. Even the seat locks can be opened via the key fob. There’s also a dedicated button on the front for unlocking the seat. The Hero Xoom 160 has a fully digital instrument cluster that is Bluetooth enabled. Users should be able to access a range of connected features, including route navigation.

Focus on practicality

Hero Xoom 160 comes with large under-seat storage space. It can also store a full-size helmet and other small items. The fuel tank and filler cap are centrally located. This ensures a seamless, hassle-free refueling experience. The Yamaha Aerox 155 has a similar setup, which means users can expect the same level of practicality from both scooters.

Hero Xoom 160 – Performance

The Hero Xoom 160 will be powered by a 160 cc liquid-cooled engine producing 14 bhp. In comparison, the Aerox has a 155 cc liquid-cooled engine producing 14.75 bhp. The Xoom 160 features a standard telescopic fork at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Both wheels come with disc brakes and single-channel ABS is standard. To get a competitive price point, Hero MotoCorp is likely to launch the Xoom 160 at around Rs 1.20 lakh. The rival Yamaha Aerox 155 starts at Rs 1.49 lakh.
