As Kia India MD and CEO Gwanggu Lee highlighted during the SUV’s world premiere, the Syros has been designed to prioritize practicality and interior space over exterior aesthetics. The Syros is wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase than the Kia Sonet. Notably, its rear seat space is comparable to that of the larger Kia Seltos. In addition, the Syros’s trunk capacity is 465 liters, which is 20% larger than the Sonet’s trunk.
The Kia Syros will be available in six trims and with two engine options:
- gasoline: The 1.0-liter turbocharged engine provides 120 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
- diesel engine: 1.5-liter engine producing 116 hp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Higher-spec models of Syros will come with a full suite of features, including:
- 17-inch alloy wheels
- Two-tone interior and leatherette upholstery
- ambient lighting
- Dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation
- 8-speaker sound system
- Ventilated front and rear seats
- wireless charging
- Power driver’s seat
- 360-degree camera and blind spot monitoring
- Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
Syros enters the highly competitive compact SUV segment and competes with the likes of Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Hyundai Venue. Kia aims to position the Syros as a practical and premium option in the segment, with features and interior space designed to appeal to urban and family buyers.
Combining practicality, comprehensive features and competitive pricing, the Kia Syros is expected to make a huge impact in the compact SUV market. All eyes will be on its public debut and subsequent price announcement to see how it fares against its established rivals.
