Mercedes-AMG electric SUV prototype makes world premiere

The upcoming electric SUV is based on the AMG.EA platform. Following the GT 4-door coupe, this SUV is the second AMG model to use this dedicated electric architecture.

Remember last month when Mercedes-AMG showed off its upcoming high-performance electric SUV? Well, the German automaker is back with fresh images showing a prototype undergoing winter testing in northern Sweden. Although heavy camouflage obscures key details, the SUV’s aggressive front end and sleek silhouette suggest its eye-catching design is sure to turn heads. Mercedes-AMG’s upcoming electric SUV has a muscular hood, coupe-style roof and prominent fender lines, according to the first sketch. It is built from the ground up on the AMG.EA platform and is the first all-electric SUV independently developed by the brand.

Following the GT 4-door coupe, this SUV is the second AMG model to use this dedicated electric architecture. While Mercedes-AMG has yet to reveal details, the e-SUV is expected to make its global debut in 2026. However, its availability in India is currently uncertain. There are no details on the powertrain yet, but industry reports suggest the upcoming SUV will combine serious power with impressive efficiency. The SUV is built on the advanced AMG.EA platform and will support an 800V electrical architecture and a cutting-edge axial flux electric motor. Developed by Mercedes-Benz’s Oxfordshire-based company Yasa, the motors will be available in dual- and triple-motor configurations, each delivering 479 hp and 800 Nm. The car’s total power is expected to exceed 986 horsepower, and is expected to bring an exciting driving experience based on advanced power transmission and high energy efficiency.

While details of the upcoming AMG electric SUV remain largely under wraps, it’s expected to be somewhere between the EQE (4,863mm) and EQS (5,125mm) SUVs. In terms of design, the upcoming SUV is likely to feature a redesigned Panamericana grille, stylish LED headlamps with the signature Mercedes-Benz star, bold lines, horns shaped wheel arches and an aggressive rear stance.
