Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 5-seater, G 580 launched in India tomorrow;

Mercedes-Benz will launch the much-anticipated EQS 450 5-seater and G 580 in India tomorrow, expanding its premium product line-up in the country. The EQS 450 is an all-electric luxury sedan that delivers outstanding performance, advanced technology and stylish design to meet the growing demand for sustainable mobility. Meanwhile, the G 580 continues to combine rugged off-road capability with refined luxury as part of the iconic G-Class family of sedans. Both vehicles are expected to raise the bar of automotive innovation in India, offering cutting-edge features and enhanced comfort. The launch will mark a major step for Mercedes-Benz as it works to strengthen its presence in the Indian market with these premium, technologically advanced models.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 (5 seats): appearance, mechanical details

As of now, the German carmaker offers the EQS 580 4Matic and the Maybach EQS 680 SUV in India. The upcoming EQS 450 will be the entry-level model and will exclusively offer 5-seater products. In terms of pricing, the EQS 450 is expected to be priced around Rs 140 crore (ex-showroom).

Mechanically, the model will be powered by the same 122kWh battery pack as the seven-seat model, delivering 536.5bhp and 858Nm of torque via a dual-motor setup. It will come with 200kW DC fast charging capable of charging the battery from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes.

In terms of design, the EQS 450 will share similarities with the EQS 580, with a closed grille, dual LED headlights, a full-width LED light strip, wraparound taillights and possibly new 21-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the car promises five-speaker Burmester audio system, 56-inch Super Screen with 17.7-inch infotainment unit, dual rear-seat entertainment screens, Energizing Air Control Plus, nine airbags, hand-stitched interior trim, Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera and five-zone climate control.

Mercedes-Benz G 580: key details

The G580, also known as EQG globally, is based on the G-Class platform but incorporates Mercedes’ EQ electric technology. Although it retains the iconic G-Class silhouette, the G580 still features an electric powertrain. The vehicle’s front grille is designed with an illuminated octagonal panel and a prominent company logo, and buyers can choose between a charging cable storage compartment or a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. To improve aerodynamics, the SUV has received revised rear wheel arch air curtains, bonnet, A-pillar cladding and rear spoiler. The G580 will be imported in CBU form and is expected to be priced in excess of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom).

The G580 is powered by a four-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 579 horsepower and 1,164 Nm of torque. This setup enables the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The car’s 116kWh battery is mounted in a ladder frame and has a range of 473 kilometers per charge. It supports fast charging up to 200kW, charging the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 32 minutes. Additionally, the G580 can be charged using an 11kW AC charger.

The G580’s interior is similar to the standard model, with two 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. The electric SUV also introduces unique features including G-Turn, G-Steering and G-Crawl. G-Turn enables the vehicle to spin on the spot, G-Steering provides enhanced off-road handling and tighter turns through torque vectoring, and G-Crawl allows the SUV to move at a slow speed of 2 km/h for navigating rough terrain crawl.
