Mercedes EQS SUV launched in India, to be assembled locally in my country
Mercedes-Benz has launched the EQS SUV in India at a price of Rs 1.41 crore (ex-showroom). Positioned between the EQE SUV and the luxurious Maybach EQS SUV, the car is the brand’s latest offering in the growing electric vehicle market. With the launch of this car, Mercedes now has six electric vehicles in its lineup in India, indicating that the company is making a big push into electrification. Notably, India is one of the first markets outside the US to assemble the EQS SUV, a result of the brand’s localized production strategy to increase accessibility.
EQS SUV: Key details and specs
Available in the fully-equipped 580 4Matic model, the EQS SUV is Mercedes’ second 7-seater electric vehicle in India after the EQB. It is designed as a luxury family electric SUV that comes with advanced features and impressive performance.
External
In terms of design, the EQS SUV shares some similarities with its Maybach counterpart, but with a more understated look. The front features a unique black panel grille that stretches across the bumper and features LED headlights connected by a light bar. Compared to the Maybach version, the standard EQS SUV has fewer chrome details and a more understated look.
The rear of the vehicle retains the full-width LED taillights on the Maybach EQS SUV. However, the bumper has been redesigned with less chrome trim. In terms of size, the EQS SUV is slightly smaller than the Mercedes GLS, with a body that is 82 mm shorter, 3 mm wider, and 105 mm lower, with a smooth and dynamic appearance.
Internal
Inside, the EQS SUV is loaded with high-end features. The focal point of the cabin is the Hyperscreen, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch front passenger screen. All three displays are integrated into one continuous unit, emphasizing the futuristic feel of the interior.
Other notable features include soft-close doors, puddle lamps, illuminated pedals, a 15-speaker Burmester sound system, five-zone climate control, and dual 11.6-inch entertainment screens for rear passengers. Safety features are also top-notch, including nine airbags and an ADAS Level 2 system. This SUV comes with the AMG Line styling package with sporty bumpers and 21-inch alloy wheels, which adds to its overall appeal.
Powertrain and range
The EQS 580 4Matic is powered by a 122kWh battery that drives a dual-motor setup. This configuration produces 544 horsepower and 858 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. The car offers an impressive ARAI-certified range of 809 km on a single charge, making it suitable for long-distance travel without frequent charging. In addition, the battery supports 200kW DC fast charging, adding convenience to the owner’s travel.
Pricing and Market Positioning
Priced at Rs 1.41 crore, the EQS SUV is just Rs 2 lakh more than the EQE SUV (Rs 1.39 crore), making it competitive in the premium electric SUV segment. It will directly compete with the BMW iX (Rs 1.4 crore) and Audi Q8 e-tron (priced around Rs 1.15 crore).
Mercedes-Benz has seen strong interest in its electric vehicles in the Indian market. The recently launched Maybach EQS SUV has received over 50 orders and the EQS sedan has sold over 500 units in India, indicating strong demand for luxury electric vehicles in the Indian market.
Mercedes-Benz continues to consolidate its leadership in the Indian luxury electric vehicle market with the launch of the EQS SUV. Blending cutting-edge technology, performance and comfort, the EQS SUV is designed to cater to customers who are looking for a premium electric SUV with seven-seat practicality. With competition in the electric luxury SUV segment becoming increasingly fierce, the EQS SUV is well-positioned to carve out a niche in the market.
