- The special edition retains the 815-horsepower 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine from the Mustang GTD lineup.
- All models are finished in Performance White paint with Racing Red and Lightning Blue accents.
- Ford tried to spruce up the interior with newly trimmed sport seats, but it still looks cheap.
The ultimate Ford Mustang just got a new Limited Edition trim. Dubbed “The Spirit of America,” the beast is based on the Porsche 911 Mustang GTD and celebrates American ingenuity, as well as Craig Breedlove, who was the first to drive one. Land speed record cars were the first to break the 500 mph and 600 mph marks in the 1960s. In case you’re wondering, Ford hasn’t revealed how much the car will cost or how many will be built.
The unique paint job makes the “American Spirit” stand out from the already crazy Ford Mustang GTD. The combination of Performance White with Racing Red and Lightning Blue racing stripes matches the colors of the legendary Mustang three stripes and overalls worn by Bleedlove.
Fun fact: The uniforms also pay homage to the colors of Breedlove’s racing suit. But Ford is quick to remind us that this car also celebrates a major GTD milestone: becoming the first American car to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes. Subtle bend, Ford.

All examples come standard with the GTD Performance Package, which adds a new front dive scheme, an extended front splitter, underbody flaps, a drag reduction system and 20-inch magnesium wheels. Plenty of exposed carbon fiber also makes the car eye-catching. These include a front splitter, rear diffuser and a massive rear wing. Red “Mustang” was also added to the underside of the wings. All Spirit of America vehicles come standard with Race Red brake calipers and can be equipped with Race Red mirror caps or carbon fiber caps.

A lot has been said about the Mustang GTD’s interior and its similarities to much cheaper versions. Ford added new leather trim on the seats with Dinamica inserts to make the model stand out and feel more exclusive. The seats also feature Racing Red accents, a return to White accents and Victory Blue contrast stitching, with additional Victory Blue sprinkled around the cabin for even more visual drama. Still, despite these upgrades, there’s still the feeling that the interior doesn’t stray too far from the standard Mustang playbook.
If you want flexibility, you can opt for a 3D-printed titanium trim package, which includes a shift ring, paddle shifters, and dashboard badges. want to? certainly. Necessary? Maybe not. But hey, when you’ve seen the price tag of over $325,000 (for a base GTD, mind you), you might as well obsess over the details.
The same ultimate performance

Underneath all the patriotic paint and upgraded trim, the American spirit remains the same fire-breathing machine. That means it retains the same powerful 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine with 815 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. Other key standard features include semi-active suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes.
While Ford hasn’t revealed the exact price of this special edition, it’s a safe bet that it will cost more than the GTD’s base price of $325,000. Want to see it up close? Head to the Detroit Auto Show to experience American muscle in its most luxurious glory.
