North Carolina dealership forced to close after thieves steal $200,000 worth of cars
  • Thieves stole seven high-end cars worth $200,000 from a small dealership in North Carolina.
  • While some of the cars have been recovered, owners say insurance will not cover the depreciation.
  • North Carolina authorities arrested four men last month in connection with the thefts.

When crime hits too close to home, the consequences often extend far beyond the financial. The owner of an independent used car dealership in Farmville, North Carolina, was forced to close the store and file for bankruptcy after a group of thieves stole seven of the store’s vehicles in a brazen robbery on October 24.

Around 1 a.m., thieves parked their car at D&S Auto Source and broke in, destroying one of the security cameras. They then picked the lock on one of the safes, smashed open another safe, and obtained the keys to seven vehicles and took them away. The total value of the vehicles is approximately $200,000.

The vehicles transported include a Ford F-150 Raptor, a Mercedes SL, two Porsche Cayennes, an Audi sedan and a Mercedes GL SUV.

The dealership’s owner, Spencer Beamon, and his wife opened the facility more than four years ago. While authorities have recovered some of the vehicles, Beamon said insurance companies have refused to pay for the cars’ depreciated value because they have been “stolen to recover” titles. He also said insurance companies were unwilling to reimburse him for the vehicle that was still missing, prompting Beamon to start a GoFundMe campaign and permanently close the dealership.

“They took my car, changed my livelihood, turned my life upside down. I hope they find some way to make their lives better,” Beamon told ABC News 12.

At the end of November, local police revealed that four men suspected of the theft had been arrested. Each suspect is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, breaking and entering, lock picking of a safe, larceny after breaking and entering, seven counts of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The Put County Sheriff’s Office expects to make more arrests in connection with the thefts.
