In this episode, I’ll give you 4 reasons why you need to send your new employee to visit or even attend your next trade show, as well as 5 tips to make your new employee’s work at the show as effective as possible! Let’s get started!
Four reasons…
- Get them up to speed on your industry. If they are new to the industry, nothing is better than this! Learn about all types of companies, understand trends, and see where your company fits in. If they are familiar with the industry, get them to see things from a new perspective!
- They can do excellent market research by talking one-on-one with clients, prospects, and suppliers. Nothing asks better questions than a new person!
- Break out of your new person routine. We’ve all been there – like drinking from a fire hose, trying to navigate a new job. For new people, getting out of the office or usual workplace can be a great thing.
- Accelerate connections and quickly bring them into your team. Nothing helps them get to know you and you get to know them better than spending a few days together.
5 tips to make new team members as effective and efficient as possible at events:
- Assign them specific tasks and schedule meetings for them with clients or suppliers, especially those they will interact with in their positions.
- While they are in the booth, have them observe conversations with your team to learn.
- Get them out of the booth, visit the show, and gather information. Then have them do some research on your competitors!
- Have them attend workshops and breakout sessions on your behalf and take notes. Repeat your time!
- Be sure to spend time observing them – how do they talk to potential clients? How do they fit in with your team? What are their social skills like?
