Redefining the value of modern exhibitions and events

Expo! Expo! IAEE’s 2024 Annual Meeting and Exhibition delves into the inner workings of exhibitions and events, with six unique learning tracks offered by industry leader Tim Luepke, CMM, CMP, CTS, DES, MPI Academy Dean of Meeting Professionals International. Tim will chair the meeting, Participate in the equation.

As professionals upskill themselves to embrace a new era of exhibitions and events, it’s more important than ever to reassess and update established value propositions that bring people together. If an exhibit/event is not about meeting subject matter experts, peers, community members, and/or customers, then what is its purpose?

If this is the primary purpose of an event, then shouldn’t it be the lens through which we design experiences that matter to attendees, stakeholders, customers, and the organization?

As we seek to connect people in meaningful ways, what techniques can be applied to our campaign elements to ensure those connections are designed and executed with purpose?

Tim will explore these questions and the science of breaking “hallway conversations” out of the hallways and into the rest of our spaces. This discussion will empower participants to create meaningful engagement for all attendees and stakeholders at exhibitions and events.

You will articulate new value propositions for live exhibitions and events. What are the latest changes to create lasting impact and value for attendees after the event?

It begins with what invitations we as human beings extend in any activity and to others. It starts with our self-awareness and understanding of our intentions and impact on others. These conversations or moments will be the catalyst that makes you and your event memorable. I’ll dive into event design and the importance of setting a “North Star” for your event, while also considering how we can create an environment for attendees to energize others. This will create a memorable event and turn your attendees into loyal customers.

You will also teach new formats to promote attendee engagement. How can organizers effectively measure and adapt these new formats to ensure they meet different attendee preferences and learning styles?

I’ll focus on 19 elements of engagement that apply to all brands, industries and organizations. Carefully selecting and mixing elements can increase engagement. I will only explore these elements through the lens of creating engagement among participants, as stated in the learning objectives, but… these can and should be applied to all elements of the event design process. This awareness will provide some building blocks and tools to help one through any campaign design process.

Additionally, you will provide organizers with strategies to facilitate networking that is meaningful to all attendees. Why is it important to provide a variety of networking opportunities?

I’ll talk about trends in our events that will illustrate the value of how we design, activate and engage attendees and customers. These insights will help you understand the pulse of our industry and how best to develop a roadmap with some actionable takeaways.

What sparked your passion for this subject? Why is this information so important in today’s business environment?

As MPI’s Director of Education, my heart and passion is educating our industry through relevant and timely topics. As ghosting becomes more common in our industry, engaging attendees with personalization and authenticity becomes even more important. We are in the talent industry, and this topic will not only make you a better professional, but it will also help you as an individual consider how to be the best version of yourself in every aspect of your life.
