Among Royal Enfield’s 650cc products, sales of Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650 have declined significantly in sales of motorcycles above 500cc

Large bike sales are one of the few segments in India that has seen steady year-on-year growth. In September 2024, sales of large bicycles were 4,242 units, a year-on-year increase of 15.05% from 3,687 units in September 2023, with an increase of 555 units.

Compared to August 2024, when 3,916 units were sold, the segment registered a healthy month-on-month growth of 8.32% with an increase of 326 units. Like clockwork, Royal Enfield topped the segment with total sales of 3,818 units, accounting for 90% of the market share in large bike sales.

Topping the list was Royal Enfield’s 650 Twins (Interceptor 650 and GT Continental 650) with 2,869 units sold. Last year, 1,280 units were sold, more than doubling year-on-year, an increase of 125%. Sales increased by 1,589 units, with the 650 Twins accounting for 67.63% of the market share in this list.

The second and third places are Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650, with 685 and 264 units sold respectively. Super Meteor fell sharply by 66.41% year-on-year, with sales more than half reduced by 1,354 units. While the Shotgun 650 is too new to achieve year-over-year sales records, quarter-on-quarter sales were down.

Kawasaki Z900 is India’s best-selling large bike outside Royal Enfield’s sphere of influence. The 4-cylinder engine, with 90 units sold, was the main attraction here, but sales fell by 40.4% year-on-year. From a long run of zero sales to selling 42 units of the XL750 Transalp, Honda has come a long way in the big bike segment.

Suzuki Hayabusa, India’s most popular Dhoom Bike, sold 38 units last month, down 34.48% year-on-year, compared with 58 units last year. The newly launched Triumph Daytona 660 has found 32 buyers last month. Triumph Street Triple and Ninja ZX-10R each sold 30 units, with Street Triple down 41.18% year-on-year.

Aprilia Tuareg sold 1 unit

Triumph Tiger 900, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Ninja 650 sold 19,18 units and 17 units respectively, with Tiger and Ninja increasing year-on-year. Kawasaki Versys 650 sold 12 units, down 29.41% year-on-year, and suffered a loss. Triumph Rocket III and Speed ​​Twin 900 sold 10 and 9 units respectively, representing year-on-year growth of 400% and 80%. Triumph Tiger 660 and Harley-Davidson Nightster sold 8 units each.

Harley-Davidson Sportster S and Fat Boy 114 each sold 7 units. Suzuki Katana was the only brand to sell 6 units last month. Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster, Bonneville T120, Harley Fab Bob and Kawasaki Z650 sold 5 units each. Aprilia RSV4 sold 3 units, while Aprilia Tuono, Kawasaki Z650 RS, Triumph Scrambler 1200 and Harley Street Glide sold 2 units each.

With one sold, we have the Aprilia RS660, Tuareg 660, Suzuki GSX-8R, Kawasaki Z900 RS, Triumph Trident 660, Speed ​​Twin 1200, Bonneville Bobber, Harley Road Glide, Standard and Honda Goldwing.
