Ranger Raptor-based Santamobile comes with tiny rocket engines, an ‘infinity’ bed and, of course, wings

- Ford Australia has created a fictional Ranger Raptor North Edition for a very special customer.
- The truck comes with wings, a roof hatch, a tailgate grill, and a tiny rocket engine.
- The concept was presented in sketch form as a Christmas holiday special.
Ford Australia is getting into the festive spirit with the launch of a truck concept designed specifically for Kris Kringle, also known as Santa Claus. The Ford Ranger Raptor North Edition adds wings and propellers to the truck, as well as cool features like a tailgate grill.
The festive special is the brainchild of Australian Ford designer Kirby Masterman and is expected to “never” enter production. The sketches were shown to the bearded customer, highlighting the custom features compared to the standard Ranger Raptor.

The truck features bull bars and a stronger grille made of “Unobtanium.” The highlight, however, are the large retractable wings mounted on the doors, with additional winglets on the rear fenders and tailgate. Presumably, these will help the raptor stay in the air after completing one of its signature jumps.
The Ranger’s doors have been removed and replaced with a roof access system. Inside, the team added heated cup holders to keep hot chocolate at the perfect temperature, a “Gingerbread Plus” infotainment system, and a special glovebox where you can cook Christmas cookies. There’s an “infinite load box” in the back for storing gifts, and there’s an integrated self-cleaning grill on the tailgate.
The stock Ranger Raptor’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 had to be replaced with a more powerful engine. Ford developed a compressed air system inspired by the 1958 Levacar Mach 1 concept, complete with a miniature rocket engine.
After checking out the model in the Ford Design Studio, the satisfied customer said: “Sleigh and Reindeer is my brand and will always be a part of my work life. But I’m always looking for one that can be used 364 days of the year.” Something, or at Christmas (if need be) I guess you could say I’m looking for my everyday sleigh.”
Ford says that while they don’t work with the public to design custom vehicles, they “chose to work with Chris Kringle” to ensure their team remains on his “good list.” They also admitted that putting retractable wings on the Ranger Raptor was impossible, although they tried.
At least Ford’s latest Christmas concept is more attractive than the 2015 Fiesta-based sleigh and almost as cool as the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Sleigh.
Of course, the only real thing you’re reading in this article is the Ford Levacar Mach 1 concept car, which was created in 1958 as part of Ford’s quest to explore aerodynamic vehicles. The working prototype can travel at speeds of 15 mph (24 km/h) while hovering “less than an inch” above the ground.
