Let’s face itMany hardcore off-road SUVs never leave the paved road. In Scottsdale, Arizona, spotless Mercedes-Benz G-Wagens and Range Rovers are everywhere. Their owners miss out on the fun of getting mud on their tires, but hey, they paid for it, so they can treat their vehicles as they please. Likewise, Lexus’ latest concept car, the golf-themed 2024 GX 550 Malbon Edition, is built for the country club, not the countryside.
As the name implies, Lexus partnered with Malbon Golf, a “gaming-inspired lifestyle brand” founded in 2017, to create this unique vehicle. Green was the obvious choice for the exterior wrap, but they took it a step further and created a vehicle with a fairway terrain graphic. Just like the golf ball, the 22-inch wheels and roof are all white, making it even clearer that the only sand this GX will have to deal with is the sand dragged in from the bunkers by the passengers’ shoes.
There’s room for four inside. Instead of a third row, the GX 550 Malbon Edition comes with custom pull-out storage compartments that can hold up to four golf bags, irons, golf balls, tees, shoes, towels, and other items. For longer woods and clubs, there’s a Prinsu roof rack that can accommodate a Pelican BX140R cargo box. There’s also a Yakima SlimShady roof awning on top to provide shade when the sun (and long daytime drinking) gets too strong.
Lexus doesn’t appear to have plans to put the GX 550 Malbon Edition into production, but it is on its way. Look for it at the following events:
- October 7 – Oregon Buckets Club Golf Championship, Columbia Edgewater
- October 9-12 – IMSA Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta
- November 11 – Buckets Club Championship, Grand Golf Club
- December 4 – Lexus Malbun Invitational, Miami Shores Country Club
