2025 Carrera S returns to Porsche 911 lineup with 473 hp, but no manual
  • Since the launch of the 992.2, the Carrera S model has briefly returned to the Porsche lineup.
  • The new 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S is powered by 30 horsepower, comes with more standard equipment, and is available in coupe and convertible versions.
  • MSRP starts at $146,400, with deliveries expected to begin in the spring of 2025 in the United States.

Yes, 2025 is less than two weeks away and we already have a new 911 variant to report on. We say “new,” but it would be more appropriate to call it a relaunch, as the Carrera S moniker is back in the lineup after taking a break when the 992.2 was launched in May 2024.

As the name suggests, the 911 Carrera S is a more powerful version of the standard Carerra, sitting between the entry-level model and the Carerra GTS T-Hybrid. It uses the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine as its smaller Carrera sibling, but adds more power and standard equipment.

Walking too much is not possible

Fans who prefer to row their own boats may be disappointed that, at least for now, the Carrera S will only be sold in the U.S. with an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This is a bit of a blow considering the first generation of the 992 (the pre-facelift version for those who don’t know much about naming conventions) came with a seven-speed manual transmission and PDK. Those who still feel the need for a joystick can still buy one on the 911 T, albeit with much less power.

Speaking of power, the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S has a healthy improvement over the previous generation. The turbochargers have been upgraded and have charge air cooling. The result is a 30-horsepower increase for a total output of 473 hp and the same 390 lb-ft of torque. The added power gets you from 0 to 60 mph 0.2 seconds faster than the previous Carrera S, or just 3.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package. The Carrera S will have a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h).

More as standard but plenty of options

The 2025 Carrera S will come standard with a sports exhaust system with silver tailpipes, and to handle higher speeds, the new S borrows brakes from the previous generation GTS. Brakes measure 408mm at the front and 380mm at the rear, and are covered by staggered 20/21-inch wheels. Other things you don’t have to worry about are Matrix LED headlights, redesigned dampers with optimized hydraulics, and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

There are plenty of options, too, with upgrades like Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) and PASM sport suspension providing sharper power. For those seeking ultimate agility, optional rear-axle steering enhances maneuverability at low speeds and stability at high speeds. It also includes a faster steering ratio and improved front axle kinematics.

Inside, the 2025 Carrera S introduces a more luxurious interior with extensive use of leather on the seats, headrests and upper instrument panel as standard. Convertible models come with a rear seat, while coupe buyers can choose to delete the rear seat to save weight. For those who want more personalization, Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur offers full leather upholstery in up to 48 two-tone combinations.

Pricing and availability

Pricing starts at $146,400 for the Coupe and $159,600 for the Cabriolet (excluding $1,995 delivery fee), with U.S. deliveries starting in spring 2025 and ordering available now.
