Nissan India is gearing up to launch the Magnite facelift, which is expected to go on sale on October 4. This is the first major update for the compact SUV since its launch in 2020. The facelift is part of Nissan India’s wider product strategy to expand its lineup with five new models in the next two years. These include a C-segment SUV to rival the Hyundai Creta, an entry-level electric vehicle, and the facelifted Magnite.

Since its debut, the Magnite has achieved impressive results in the small SUV segment, reaching the 100,000 units sales milestone by early 2024.

Expected changes in cosmetic surgery

The upcoming facelift model is expected to focus on exterior improvements while retaining the core design elements of the Magnite. The exterior is likely to feature updated bumpers, headlight and taillight designs, along with new colour options and alloy wheel designs. Nissan seems to have taken a cautious approach, maintaining a recognizable look that resonates well with buyers while offering subtle visual upgrades to keep the model fresh.

More significant changes are expected inside the cabin. The facelifted Magnite is likely to come with a larger touchscreen, a revised instrument cluster (likely inspired by the X-Trail), and revised seat upholstery. Other safety features such as six airbags are also expected to be included with the upgrade, further enhancing the SUV’s appeal in the safety-conscious market.

Powertrain options are likely to remain the same

Under the hood, the Magnite facelift is expected to carry over the existing powertrain options. The 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine that produces 71 BHP and 96 Nm of torque is likely to continue to be offered alongside a more powerful turbocharged version. The turbo-petrol version delivers 99 BHP and 160 Nm of torque and is available with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. The naturally aspirated version is likely to continue to be paired with a five-speed manual or an AMT.

Continue to implement aggressive pricing strategy

The competitive pricing of the Magnite has been one of its strongest selling points and Nissan is expected to continue this strategy with the facelifted model. In terms of competition, the Magnite will continue to compete with established rivals including the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Going forward, Nissan India is expected to launch two new models early next year to follow up the Magnite facelift, which could include a replacement version of the new-generation Renault Duster.
