With the more affordable version of the Triumph Speed series, the Speed T4, the brand is better able to compete with the segment leader Royal Enfield Classic 350
Iconic motorcycle manufacturing brand Triumph Motorcycles has been actively expanding its affordable motorcycle lineup. Just recently, Triumph launched its most affordable offering to date, the Speed T4. The Bajaj-Triumph duo has been stepping up its product offensive against Royal Enfield.
The updated MY25 Speed 400 will compete with the Guerrilla 450, while the Speed T4 will compete with the just updated Royal Enfield Classic 350. While the obvious competitor is the Classic 350, the Speed T4 has a lot of changes compared to the MY25 Speed 400. Let’s see what’s new and different about the Speed T4 compared to the updated MY25 Speed 400.

Triumph Speed T4 and Speed 400
The Speed T4 has undergone significant changes to its powertrain and exhaust system, evolving it from the Speed 400 into a unique new motorcycle. First and foremost, the Triumph Speed T4 and Speed 400 share the same basic powertrain. In this sense, they both come with the same 398cc DOHC 4V single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine.
However, Triumph has modified this 400cc engine to create two different flavors. On the Speed T4, Triumph has replaced the electronic throttle control system of the Speed 400 with a manual throttle control system. The Speed T4 also has a lower state of tune that produces a peak power of 30.6 bhp at 7,000 RPM and a peak torque of 36 Nm at 5,000 RPM.

The MY25 Speed 400 continues with the previous tune, outputting 40 bhp at 8,000 RPM and 37.5 Nm at 6,500 RPM. Both cars use a 6-speed gearbox, but the Speed T4 uses an O-ring chain for the final drive, while the Speed 400 uses an X-ring chain. Triumph has also redesigned the exhaust note of the Speed T4 to make it deeper.
In addition to the powertrain changes, the dimensions and components have also changed. Starting with the dimensions, the Speed T4 is slightly wider, with a handlebar of 827 mm and a height of 1098 mm without ORVMs, while the Speed 400 has 814 mm and 1084 mm respectively. The Speed T4 also has a taller seat height of 806 mm and weighs 180 kg, which is 4 kg heavier than the Speed 400.

As far as components are concerned, the main noticeable difference is that the Triumph Speed T4 gets a 43mm RSU telescopic fork, while the Speed 400 gets a 43mm USD fork with a gold finish. Another notable difference is that the Speed T4 gets narrower 140-section tyres, while the Speed 400 retains the wider, higher-quality 150-section tyres.
Different riding characteristics
The 2025 Speed 400 has adjustable levers, while the Speed T4 does not. Conversely, the Speed T4 has a heavier exhaust note, while the Speed 400 does not. Other features and lighting settings are the same on both motorcycles. The Speed T4 has a relaxed riding character, while the Speed 400 continues to be tight in terms of performance.
