Xiaomi SU7 sedan’s electric SUV twin will go on sale in China in summer 2025
- The Xiaomi YU7 is China’s latest electric SUV, aiming to challenge Tesla’s Model Y.
- Official photos of the Xiaomi YU7 along with key specifications from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have surfaced online.
- This 681-horsepower crossover looks like an affordable Ferrari Purosangue with a McLaren front end.
The electric car race is heating up, and Xiaomi is wasting no time in launching the YU7 SUV, its second mass-produced model after the SU7 sedan. Targeted for launch in mid-2025, the high-tech SUV borrows heavily from the design language of its sedan, which will be launched in late 2023.
Maybe it’s just us, but it sounds like it would make more sense to swap names between the sedan and SUV, and regardless, the similarities between the YU7 and SU7 are hard to ignore, especially in terms of size. However, the YU7 embraces its SUV identity with a slightly taller, more muscular stance that sets it apart from its sedan counterparts.

Another thing that can’t be ignored is the not-so-subtle hint of Ferrari Purosangue in the YU7’s silhouette. The pronounced wheel arches, sculpted rear haunches and sleek greenhouse echo the Italian thoroughbred, but Xiaomi doesn’t quite copy it. At the front, McLaren-inspired 750S-style LED headlights give the SUV a sharp, purposeful look, while at the rear there are full-width LED taillights and a ducktail spoiler, in line with Aston Martin’s offerings Nothing seems out of place.
In terms of dimensions, the Chinese EV has a length of 4,999 mm (196.8 inches), a width of 1,996 mm (78.6 inches), a height of 1,600 mm (63 inches), and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm (118.1 inches). These dimensions are closely related to the SU7 sedan, except for the SUV’s 145 mm (5.7 in) height advantage, which gives it a more commanding presence.
What’s inside (and below)
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the YU7’s interior yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the SUV borrows the sedan’s 16.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, complemented by rear passenger displays and a tech-forward minimalist aesthetic. Meanwhile, as with the sedan, the roof-mounted lidar sensor signals the addition of advanced self-driving features that Xiaomi is keen to market as a cornerstone of its electric vehicle lineup.

According to the data we got from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the YU7 will feature a dual-motor setup. The front motor produces 295 hp (220 kW / 299 hp) and the rear motor 386 hp (288 kW / 392 hp), for a total output of 681 hp (508 kW / 691 hp). This puts it ahead of the SU7 Max, which has a maximum power of 664 hp (495 kW / 673 PS).
Product range, pricing and market arrival
YU7 will use a battery pack produced by CATL, but Xiaomi has not disclosed specific specifications. The SU7 sedan has battery capacities of 73.6 kWh, 94.3 kWh and 101 kWh, with a maximum CLTC range of 497 miles (800 km). Given its larger, heavier frame, the YU7 might fall slightly short of that number, but not by much.
As for pricing, Xiaomi is tight-lipped, but Chinese media have reported a starting price of 250,000 to 300,000 yen (equivalent to $34,400 to $41,300 at current prices), positioning it as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y. The SU7 sedan starts at 215,900 yen ($29,700), easily less than the equivalent Tesla Model 3.
Production will take place at Xiaomi’s Beijing factory, where the SU7 recently reached the 100,000-unit milestone. The YU7 will be launched in mid-2025 and will join the increasingly crowded SUV market.
