This special project requires someone with vision and dedication to turn it into a true dream come true

- In this unique project, a 1963 Ferrari California body sits atop a 2010 California chassis.
- The transformation included a modern Ferrari drivetrain and detailed finishing plans.
- This no-reserve auction could yield one of the coolest or most cringe-worthy Ferrari tuners ever built.
There’s an old adage that goes: “Never buy someone else’s project.” For those who think these statements are silly, this is Ferrari. This is probably our most ambitious and terrifying project ever. In short, it’s the original body of a 1963 Ferrari California 250 GTE sitting atop a 2010 Ferrari California chassis. Crossing the finish line will take some work, though.
First, let’s talk about how this car came about. The seller on Cars&Bids said it was his father’s project. “It’s truly glorious madness! It’s a passion project driven by the desire to have the modern performance and reliability of today’s sports cars but retain the classic looks of the past. He did have the idea in the beginning to completely restore the original, But soon moved on to restoration mode (not a small number as original 250 pieces are hard to find…)”

Body swaps are not uncommon in the automotive world, but Ferrari-for-Ferrari body swaps are extremely rare. It’s even crazier to do this with a modern Ferrari that is said to be running well. Doug DeMuro said the winning bidder will essentially receive everything needed to run the project.
Included is the complete drivetrain of the Hyundai California along with 3D scan files and a 52-page guide detailing the entire plan. To the seller’s credit, this is much more than you can get at the time of transaction on most projects. Most importantly, a lot of the hardest work has already been done.

This included, and I can’t believe this actually happened, cutting the original 1963 Ferrari body down the middle and welding enough sheet metal to cover a modern California chassis. The seller has prepared all the wiring required, they have tested the body on the chassis and also sorted out all the internal components.
For the right person, given the right time, this could be one of the coolest body swaps ever. As of this writing, the highest bid is just $7,600. It also has no reserve price, so at the end of the auction someone will need to come with a big box to transport all of this stuff.
