1967 Chevrolet Chevrolet SS 396

Many people in the automotive industry It is believed that someone never actually owns a car, they are just its caretaker until the next person comes along. Are you the next to like and follow our daily picks? This 1967 Chevelle SS 396 with supercharged 509 power? (Click here or on any image below to be taken to the listing).

According to the selling dealer, this Chevelle was purchased about 40 years ago by an engine builder who dreamed of putting a big, damaged V8 engine in it. After he purchased the Capri-Cream-over-gold-vinyl coupe, he repainted it black and replaced the original Turbo-Jet 396 with a 502 and drilled it into a 509. The builder considered other modifications (notably a supercharger), but he died before completing the build.

Luckily, his daughter stepped in and turned the Chevelle into the car he wanted. There were still many parts that needed to be installed, so she took her father’s car to a shop to complete the assembly. With the wrenches put away and the fender pads removed, the engine comes complete with roller lifters, roller camshaft, forged pistons, dual Holley 750 cfm dual pumps, GM oval port aluminum heads, Hooker headers, quad Aluminum radiators, etc. Of course, a Weiand 6-71 blower was also installed in the shop. The final finishing touch is a dual-port, polished aluminum “birdcatcher” that sits high above the custom hood opening. What’s the end result of all these mods? According to the dealer, the dyno rated 803 horsepower.

This giant engine roars through a three-inch X-pipe and dual exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers. A Doug Nash 5-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch, heavy-duty driveshaft, and a GM 12-bolt Positraction rear end with 4:56 gears provides extra power to the rear BFGoodrich radial.

The shop also did a lot of work inside the cabin, reupholstering the seats in black vinyl and installing new dash, door cards, trim and weather stripping. In addition to the roar of the engine and the scream of the supercharger, there’s a custom automatic audio radio to listen to. In addition to a bunch of stripped-down original parts, the car was purchased with a vintage air system complete with the necessary brackets, pipes, condenser, and compressor.

According to the dealer, “The car drives great, even though it’s essentially designed to do one thing – go very fast in a straight line. The brakes easily brought the car to a stop from around 60 mph, and I didn’t stand a chance. Get her up to any track speed.”

It’s a good thing they didn’t, because something could have gone wrong and prevented this high-performance machine from reaching the next administrator. If you’re ready to take the job and maybe $92,500 (OBO) out of your bank account, you can take the reins of this beast and see what it can do.
