1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Convertible

one of the greatest things As a car enthusiast, you can participate in the hobby even if you don’t drive. A simple walk through the shopping district is filled with interesting sights to spark your inner interest. The only problem is, you never know the story behind a particular vehicle that catches your eye. But if you happened to see our Daily Pick in person, a 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Convertible listed on ClassicCars.com by a New York City dealer, you’d know the background and details information.

Part of the W111 series of vehicles, the V8-powered 280SE 3.5 ran from the late 1950s to the early 1970s and was relatively rare in production over the past few years, especially in convertible form. Of the hundreds of thousands of W111s produced, only 1,232 were 280SE 3.5 convertibles.

The car is a Texas car with only two owners and approximately 43,000 miles, according to the selling dealer. Of course, the passage of time tends to offset the value of miles, which explains why this open-air beauty has been restored not once, but twice.

For the first time, it was stripped down to bare metal and refinished in its original tobacco brown. Additionally, the air conditioning system was overhauled, the headliner and headliner were replaced, and new tan upholstery and cream carpets were installed inside.

In 2022, the selling dealership allowed KJA Restorations of New Jersey to update the decades-old restoration. The shop performed a complete mechanical repair and tune-up on the fuel-injected 3.5-liter V8 engine, refinished the wood trim on the dash, installed a rebuilt steering box, and replaced all worn suspension components. It also had new tires installed (including the spare) and updated the engine belt and air conditioning compressor.

If you happen to be with someone when you pass this wonderful machine, you can tell them these facts. It should be self-evident how majestic this car is, but it probably won’t. Just look at it – rich brown paint, strong yet tasteful body lines, warm tan interior, gleaming wood trim that adds form to the function of the A-pillars and the curve behind the top of the dashboard.

Of course, you don’t have to wait for the chance to drive by this unique piece of Mercedes history. You can contact the dealer to find out how much it will cost to turn it into your car.
