I’ve always liked it The final iteration of the classic Mustang. Yes, it’s bigger and heavier than the previous cars, but the styling, especially the sports version, is simply amazing. It has an almost vertical rear window (providing minimal rear visibility) and an extra-long hood. It’s more like a GT car than a muscle or a pony car, but since I like GT cars, that’s a good thing. Additionally, these ultimate classic Mustangs have a nice and comfortable passenger compartment and must be the best choice for long-distance driving from all classic Mustangs. Finally, Sean Connery’s character in James Bond in Diamond adds to the charm of these cars forever. I actually grew up in one of them because my mom had a new one in the exact same color scheme.
Now, on the Autohunter is one of these great cars, the 1973 Ford Mustang Mach.
California sellers describe this Mustang Mach 1 as powered by a Q-Code 351 Cleveland V8, which is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Its black and red vinyl interior is painted in red, just like the “diamond is forever” car, and is now provided by the seller with a clear title.

This Mach 1 is said to be in good condition in the exterior, with some spots on the roof due to rain. This is a little weird, and I personally wonder if some of the garage spots in Griot will solve this problem. Definitely worth a try. Anyway, this Mach 1 has a super cool connected hood with a twist-in style hood lock, color-matched mirror cap and rear window blinds.

The interior looks slightly customizable with the aftermarket steering wheel and instrumentation. I will keep the gauges, but personally, I like the look of the stock steering wheel and if I buy this car I will replace it. Don’t let these details stop you, though – the top OEM-style steering wheel is a few hundred dollars.

Under the hood is a correct Ford 351 Cleveland V8 with Edbrok aluminum intake manifold and fast fuel technology 750 cfm carburetor. Those that combine with a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.89 rear end add up quickly.

These 1971-1973 Mustangs were stuck in the used car market for decades until people finally learned that they are cool muscle cars that provide increased comfort and also mark the end of classic Mustang production. If you want to get American muscle cars to step on some serious miles, I think it can do better than this 1971 Mach 1.
The auction of the 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 will end at 11:45 am (MST) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
