there are many There are a lot of one-off items on the market, but everyone has at least one thing that I call a legacy: something that you keep for years or decades and use regularly, and that shows in its patina. I consider my worn Brooks Brothers football leather briefcase to be a legacy. Our Pick of the Day is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6, the legacy of one owner for nearly half a century.
Whoever owned it before the selling dealer got it must have configured it well. You’ll see a lot of second-gen Trans Ams in black, which is cool if you’re a big Smokey and the Bandit fan, but it’s not the only color available. This T/A comes in the unexpected and attractive Nocturne Blue color, which matches the gold Firebird hood decal and 15-inch gold Snowflake wheels.

Instead of plain black vinyl, the original owner of this Trans Am had camel tack cloth seats. These add visual warmth to the cabin, while everything around them adds comfort and convenience. It has a tinted glass removable T-shaped top panel. The unique Formula steering wheel is connected to the power steering system. An engine-turned dashboard trim surrounds the climate controls. Further down, there is a Panasonic AM/FM/CB radio. On the center console are the switches for the power windows.

That massive 6.6-liter V8 under the hood is numbers-matching, according to the selling dealer. It’s connected to a MagnaFlow exhaust system, which is definitely not original to the car but probably makes up for it with the sound it produces. Like the engine, the three-speed automatic transmission is numbers-matched.

Although not shown in the photo gallery, the original window sticker came with this car and should indicate that it was ordered with the WS6 Special Performance Package. The 1979 Pontiac Buyer’s Guide shows that included 8-inch-wide cast aluminum wheels, 225/70R15 steel belt radials, power front and rear disc brakes, and most importantly, a special handling package.

If you want this Trans Am to be your automotive legacy for decades to come, it’s only $54,900.
