Featured inautomatic hunteran online auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com, is my 1994 Acura Legend GS 6-speed car.
The Legend has been classified as Acura’s flagship model since its launch in 1986 as the performance and luxury division of American Honda. When the second generation of the car ended in 1995, the range-topping sedan was known as the 3.5 RL. However, the original legend lives on for enthusiasts like me, which is part of the reason the National Acura Legends Gathering is still going strong after nearly 20 years of hosting annual gatherings.
Barrett-Jackson Studios in Scottsdale, Arizona, showcased some of the world’s most exotic cars at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2024 Auction in January, including a $340 A $2.9 million Mercedes-Benz Gullwing and a $2.9 million Bugatti Chiron. My moment in the spotlight came a few months later when I had the honor of parking my humble 1994 Acura Legend in the same spot. This opportunity was the culmination of nearly two years of car restoration, and I was honored to have Dustin W. Johnson of CCN Media capture some captivating footage of my pride and joy.
Acquisition and background
My experience with today’s car began with a comment on my YouTube channel in 2022 from a Californian subscriber who asked me if I wanted a “sedan twin” to the green Legend coupe I recently restored “. I jumped at the chance and took advantage of many of the same resources I had before.
The car is a Sherwood Green Pearl “GS”, the top model of the 1994 and 1995 Legend sedan series. It had a price tag of more than $41,000 at the time, and when it was new it was aimed at rival luxury brands in Europe and Asia, although it was powered by a V6 front-wheel-drive powertrain while other executive sedans were equipped with V8 engines. Unique to the GS is a smooth-shifting six-speed manual transmission.
Scope of work
Fortunately for me, the work required for this legend was mostly cosmetic in nature. The job began with a complete teardown and repaint by the skilled team at Apex Wet Werks in Phoenix. The project included removal of trim, moldings, bumpers and lighting. Apex even replaced the doors and fenders with parts I provided in better condition for the best finished product. I added a factory spoiler to the trunk lid to add a little extra style.
In the cabin, I used the skills of Naro from Trim Fit Upholstery. Naro spent several months converting the seats back to leather while retaining the factory “look” with gathered inserts. He also reupholstered the center armrest. The Burwood center console and steering wheel were refinished by Craft Customs in Rockwall, Texas. These bring the cabin to appropriate specifications.
The finishing touches included the installation of a set of newly refinished 16-inch wheels from Express Powder Coat. Traction comes from a set of Michelin Defender tires, and there’s a full-size matching spare wheel in the trunk.
No compromise on aesthetics, the car is ready for mechanical sorting. I had the timing belt and water pump service performed by Hon-Man Auto Care. Hanwen also cleaned up the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. EGR is a well-known critical maintenance item on second generation Legends. The C32A Type II V6 in the car is a replacement used engine, the actual mileage is unknown, but it runs well and has had new oil as of September 2024.
finale
Relatively few people are lucky enough to drive their own personal vehicle onto Barrett-Jackson’s studio floor in Scottsdale, but that’s what will happen when Legend is completed in July 2024.
I’m grateful to Barrett-Jackson Digital Media Manager Tim Heit for his gracious hospitality and opening up space for my 30-year-old Acura. Dustin Johnson worked his magic with the camera and I finally sat back and admired the car I had worked so hard to bring back to life. It is with that same pride and passion that I will now pass this car on to its next owner.
The highest bidder wins
Legend’s magazine ad calls it “the difference between enjoying time on the road and enjoying time on the road.” doing There’s time there. “It would be nice if your commute was longer,” said another. “The theme is the same in both: every mile (and every minute) driven should be rewarding. Legend is designed to blend confident handling, respectable performance and creature comforts One body.
Today, this package deal comes from Sherwood Green Pearl. Make your offer and you might be the one to take it home.
