2024 autoX Awards: Earlier this year, Ampere launched its most premium model yet, the Nexus electric scooter, which comes in two variants: the base EX, priced at Rs 1.10,000, and the higher-spec ST model, which we tested, priced at Rs 1.20,000 (Ex showroom). Design-wise, the Nexus looks a little boxy, especially around the apron. However, Ampere adds DRL elements to the headlights and taillights, giving it a good aesthetic. The scooter is available in four colours, each with a contrasting black stripe at the centre. The seats are roomy enough for two people, and while the under-seat storage is useful, it’s not the largest in the class.

The Nexus is powered by a 5.3bhp motor and is said to have a top speed of 93km/h, which is more than enough. It accelerates well and riding around the city is a breeze. In fact, it is 6 seconds faster than the Ather Rizta and almost on par with the TVS Jupiter. The scooter feels light and easy to maneuver, but at higher speeds it could clearly benefit from better tires. The Nexus is electric, runs smoothly and quietly. It comes with a 3kWh battery pack and has a certified range of 136km per charge, in line with other scooters in the segment.

The Nexus features a 7-inch TFT instrument panel, which is now standard in the segment. Although it is a full-color display, it lacks touch functionality. The information layout could be clearer, though visibility in direct sunlight is a bit poor. Additionally, the build quality is a little lacking compared to the competition. For its price, the Nexus offers a decent set of features and capabilities. However, it doesn’t offer anything unique and compelling. It’s a good enough product in its own right, but it doesn’t stand out in a segment where more established brands already offer similar products. In short, it does what others have already done.
