2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Launches Color-Change Blue Model

New Blue Ember paint combines warm tones with blue hues to create a pearlescent hue unique to Mustang Dark Horse

Ford today revealed more details about the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse design, including the first photos of the interior. Customers will get exclusive colors, interior details and special stripe packages to help show how their Mustang differs from the standard model.

“The sinister, race-bred spirit of the Mustang Dark Horse inspired us to carefully select colors and materials that accentuate the vehicle’s sporty performance,” said Carrie Kennerly, Ford senior color and materials designer. “We spent extra time on the cockpit, ensuring the look, feel and functionality a performance driver would want conveys the performance of the Mustang Dark Horse.”

The most striking design element is definitely the new color-shifting Blue Ember exterior paint color. The automaker writes that this hue was chosen to be “dark and sinister, yet sophisticated enough to warrant a second look on the street.”

The Deep Blue Metallic paint hue is pearlescent and features deep blue pigments in addition to warm amber, making the finish appear to change depending on lighting conditions.

Buyers can also choose from two special exterior stripes. Available in both vinyl and hand-painted form, these trims are designed to enhance the car’s performance-oriented appearance.

The vinyl stripes accentuate the raised center of the hood and are available in low- and high-gloss finishes to match the rest of the car’s design. With the appearance package, the stripes can be extended to the black painted roof.

Meanwhile, the premium painted stripe graphics are inspired by the airflow of the Mustang Dark Horse body, with a gloss black finish from the center of the grille to the hood tailpipes, roof and rear spoiler. These graphics are hand-painted using a specialized process and are unique to this model.

The interior continues the exterior’s black and blue theme with a new anodized blue titanium shift knob for vehicles equipped with the six-speed manual transmission. The lightweight material was chosen so the design team could make the knob hollow, thereby insulating it from heat in warm weather and preventing it from burning your hands.

For buyers who opt for the 10-speed automatic transmission, there will be a traditional rotary knob on the gear lever. However, anodized silver paddle shifters will be mounted behind the steering wheel for a better feel.

Elsewhere, bright indigo contrast stitching can be seen on the dashboard, seats, gear lever dust cover and center console trim. The Mustang Dark Horse also features a flat-bottom steering wheel that is covered in suede for a better grip.

Meanwhile, the optional electronic drift brake handle is anodized and features a leather-wrapped grip. The lever is designed to help the driver modulate brake pressure at the rear wheels to help initiate a drift.

Inside, the car can also be optioned with the optional Mustang Dark Horse appearance package, which adds Recaro performance seats with dark indigo bolsters and bright indigo decorative stitching, and blue seat belts complete the look.

Unlike the bright silver vents and bezels common in other Mustang models, these parts of the Mustang Dark Horse model will adopt the “Black Alley” style. The interior of the car also uses laser-etched carbon fiber texture to convey the performance vision of the car. Finally, the model will also have a badge on the dashboard with the chassis number of the car printed on it.

Summer Sale 2023

The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is powered by a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine that produces 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque. Buyers will be able to start customizing their own model in the summer of 2023 when Ford finally puts it on sale.
