Ford just made a big announcement for 2024 Mustang fans – the new Dark Horse will offer an optional upgrade of carbon fiber wheels. These lightweight wheels will not only improve performance, but also give Mustang owners some extra bragging rights, as we usually see this option on high-end sports cars.
The new wheels were made in partnership with Carbon Revolution. Before being approved for production, they underwent more than 200 “structural and environmental validation” tests to prove their strength and rigidity. According to Ford, they are 37% lighter than Dark Horse’s standard aluminum wheels, saving an average of 20.1 pounds (9.1 kg) of unsprung mass.

The one-piece wheels are 19 inches in diameter. They feature a five-spoke design with the nuts located between the spokes, just like on classic Mustangs. To protect against brake heat, the inside of the front wheels is sprayed with a combination of ceramic and metal materials using a “plasma arc spraying process” inspired by the aerospace industry.
The Dark Horse is the most powerful and track-focused seventh-generation Mustang yet and will replace the old Mach 1. Under the hood is a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine that produces 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque.
Note that this isn’t the first time Ford has offered carbon fiber wheels as an option for a production car, having previously offered them on the GT supercar and Shelby GT500. Pricing for the new carbon fiber wheels hasn’t been announced, but they will be on display at Ford’s booth at the Chicago Auto Show, alongside the Mustang Dark Horse, which goes on sale in the U.S. this summer.
