2025 Citroën Ami gets sleeker, with bulging eyes and 2CV-style gills
  • Citroën Ami facelift debuts four years after the original, bringing a refreshed design.
  • The front end of this heavy-duty four-wheeler has been redesigned with larger, more expressive headlights.
  • Citroën also unveiled the Ami Buggy Vision concept car, a beach version with rugged styling.

Since 2020, the Citroën Ami has been doing its quirky little thing, winning over 65,000 customers – presumably people who enjoy driving cars that look like Lego. Now, the lovely piece of plastic is getting a mid-cycle update for 2025, giving it a fresh look and a nod to the iconic 2CV’s side gills.

The 2025 Ami will make its world premiere at the 2024 Paris Motor Show together with the Ami Buggy Vision concept car. The production model features redesigned front and rear ends, larger lighting fixtures, tougher bumpers and, of course, a shiny new Citroën badge. Then there are the headlights; they’ve been given a “human” makeover, with black trim that looks suspiciously like eyelids.

At first glance, this profile may look familiar, but the devil is in the details. Look closely and you’ll notice the fake gills (aka stripes) on the right front fender, a cheeky nod to the 1948 Citroën 2CV. Since the Ami is as symmetrical as a Rubik’s Cube, these same gills are also reflected on the left rear fender. Additionally, the new wheel covers feature a square checkerboard pattern with rounded corners.

As for the mechanicals, the French automaker didn’t mention anything about upgrades. Translation: You’re still looking at the same 8-horsepower electric motor and 5.5 kWh battery, perfect for those 2-mile commutes to and from the bakery.

The 2025 Citroën Ami is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2025, with pricing to be announced closer to that date.

Now, let’s talk about the Citroën Ami Buggy Vision concept, a beach-inspired fantasy version of the Ami that answers the age-old question: “What if we made the Ami… tough” ?” The body features midnight blue paint, a contrasting white roof, black decals and yellow headlights.

Buggy Vision forgoes traditional metal tube doors to embrace the freedom of the open air, which is further enhanced by a canvas skylight. The concept features chunky, high-walled tires wrapped in flared fenders, a roof-mounted LED light bar, and a comical rear spoiler.

Citroën designers got creative and installed special holders for kiteboards on the tube doors, as well as a unique luggage compartment where kite sails can be stored. Finally, the interior features new seat cushions with a quilted look and features the infrared light covers originally introduced with the Oli concept.

While the automaker hasn’t mentioned any production plans, we wouldn’t be surprised if a slightly toned-down version of Citroën’s My Ami Buggy Vision ends up on sale. After all, the previous generation of My Ami Buggy was very successful among buyers, forcing Citroën to expand its limited production numbers.

In addition to these headlines, Citroën also launched the ‘Ami Tower’ at the Paris Motor Show – showcasing the ‘My Ami for All’, ‘My Ami Rose Festival’ and ‘My Ami Pep’ special editions. Keep in mind that Ami isn’t the only one involved in heavy quad racing. It shares the spotlight with its Stellantis siblings, the closely related Fiat Topolino and Opel Rocks Electric.
