2025 GMC Terrain debuts with truck-inspired styling and more tech
  • GMC has introduced the third generation of its Terrain SUV, which is based on the Chevrolet Equinox.
  • The SUV has a sharper exterior, while the interior is equipped with a 15-inch infotainment system and more safety features.
  • The 2025 Terrain will be available in Elevation trim, and the 2026 model will be available in AT4 and Denali trims.

GMC has unveiled the third generation of the Terrain, the brand’s entry-level SUV that combines sleeker looks with modern safety and technology features.

The 2025 GMC Terrain will initially be available in Elevation trim. The off-road-capable AT4 and luxury flagship Denali will arrive next year, just in time for the 2026 model year.

GMC says the new Terrain’s styling is inspired by trucks, bringing it more in line with the rest of its lineup. The front end features aggressive headlights flanked by a large grille and a more assertive bumper. The rear end has also been redesigned with sharper taillights and a more modern finish. AT4 and Denali trims get animated LED graphics on the lighting fixtures. Additionally, the AT4 sits taller, rides on all-terrain tires, and comes with metal underbody protection.

The profile is almost identical to the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, as the two SUVs share some sheet metal, in addition to riding on the same chassis. The GMC is distinguished by a taller C-pillar, which connects to the roof, and different wheels. The latter are 17 inches on the Elevation trim and 19 or 20 inches on the Denali. The color palette is further enhanced by the addition of a two-tone roof option, available in black or gray.

The interior has been completely remodeled with a new digital cockpit that includes an 11-inch instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 15-inch touchscreen for infotainment. These are standard on all models, along with the Google Assistant. Other available features include an HD surround-view camera with up to eight views, a digital rearview mirror, a wireless charger, a 5G WiFi hotspot, and an AutoSense power liftgate.

On the safety front, all GMC Terrains come standard with more than 15 ADAS features, including blind-spot steering assist, side bicycle alert, and rear cross-traffic braking. However, this SUV does not come with the more advanced Super Cruise system that is available in GM’s larger models.

Like the mechanically similar Chevrolet Equinox, all GMC Terrain models are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 175 hp (131 kW / 177 PS) and 203 lb-ft (275 Nm) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, though a front-wheel drive option is expected in the future.

Both the AT4 and Denali come standard with all-wheel drive and hill descent control. As for the chassis, the AT4 gets a raised suspension to go with the all-terrain tires, while the Denali gets “intelligent frequency dampers” that focus on comfort.

The 2025 GMC Terrain Elevation will be launched in late 2024, with the AT4 and Denali following in 2025. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. In addition to the Terrain, GMC is almost ready to release an upgraded Yukon, which has appeared in an official teaser announcement for the Australian and Chinese markets.
