With the growing preference for rugged styling, Hyundai may be considering giving the Inster EV a similar design.
As part of its expansion plan for its electric vehicle portfolio, Hyundai has been launching mass-market products. One of them is the Inster EV, which is based on the Casper compact crossover sold in international markets. The latest spy photos show that the Inster EV may also be available in an off-road variant.
Hyundai Inster EV Off-Road Edition – What to Expect?
To achieve a strong road presence, the Inster EV Off-Road uses some additional equipment. The test vehicle can be seen equipped with a large roof rack, which can be provided as an option.
It looks like a heavy-duty piece of equipment, with wide pillars supporting the top storage area. This roof rack is very useful for camping and long trips. The standard Inster model already has 238 litres of luggage space. With the rear seats folded, the luggage space increases to 351 litres.
Another change is the use of new wheels with a rugged look. These wheels are a stark departure from the low-drag, aerodynamically designed wheels of the standard Inster models. The rugged wheels may also have greater strength. Depending on the model, the standard Inster is available in 15-inch and 17-inch wheel sizes. The off-road version appears to use 17-inch wheels.
The side profile remains largely the same as the standard model. Only some additional rubber moldings are visible on the side cladding. The Inster EV has conventional front door handles, while the rear door handles are mounted on the C-pillars.
The test car’s ORVMs are painted in a similar body colour as the standard model. The front and rear are heavily camouflaged, making it difficult to discern the changes. Only the lighting elements are visible, which appear to be the same as the standard model.
XRT variant possibilities
Hyundai offers XRT packages for several of its SUVs, such as the Santa Fe, Palisade, and Santa Cruz. In the electric vehicle segment, the Ioniq 5 XRT is coming soon. The XRT package mainly focuses on bolder styling with black parts.
Components such as the front grille and alloy wheels are given a black treatment. The exterior and interior of the Hyundai XRT model also feature thick black cladding and XRT badges. Many of these features appear to match the updates to the off-road version of the Inster EV.
Performance improvement?
While the Inster Cross Country will have better off-road capabilities than the standard version, it is uncertain whether the former will receive a performance boost. Battery options for the standard Inster EV are 42 kWh and 49 kWh (Long Range). Power outputs are 97 PS and 115 PS respectively. Torque is 147 Nm for both models. The Long Range version has a range of 355 km (WLTP). A 10 to 80% charge can be achieved in about 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC fast charger.
