Ssangyong Australia is undergoing a rebranding exercise, along with the introduction of an all-new mid-size SUV with bolder styling.
The company is now called KGM SsangYong Australia. KGM Ssangyong Torres It is its first new model launch.
It will be available for sale starting in October.
The company no doubt hopes that the Torres will be able to carve out a niche in the mid-size SUV market that the poorly-selling Korando has never been able to do.
While it looks very different to the Korando, it is mechanically very similar and is powered by the same turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
While the car is petrol-powered, the company has previously confirmed the electric Torres EVX will also come to Australia in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The Torres was originally expected to be unveiled in 2022, and Ssangyong previously said that strong demand in South Korea was the reason for the SUV’s delayed launch.
The cheapest Torres has a base price of $38,000, roughly the same as the most expensive Korando.
The Korando ELX is priced at $33,000, while the Ultimate is priced at $39,000, although you can get it cheaper if you are an ABN holder or if you buy a 2023 model.
