The XUV700 EV version is expected to be launched in 2025 and will mainly challenge the upcoming Tata Harrier EV and Safari EV

Like many other automakers, Mahindra expects EV sales to grow significantly in the coming years. To stay ahead of the competition, Mahindra will launch its range of pure electric SUVs next year. The first of these is the XUV700 EV version.

Mahindra XUV700 EV version – What to expect?

The Mahindra XUV700 EV test car has been spotted frequently in recent months. The latest spy photos come courtesy of car enthusiast Aniket Kashyap, who managed to photograph these test mules in Ladakh. Although it is wrapped in full camouflage, it is easy to see that most of the exterior outlines are the same as those of the ICE model.

However, the XUV700 EV version will be equipped with a new front fascia. It will include a closed grille, new lighting elements and updated bumper sections. The side profile of the XUV700 EV is very similar to the ICE model. Some key highlights include flush door handles, rounded wheel arches, chrome window trim and a slightly tapered rear roof section. The XUV700 EV will offer a more refined aesthetic with its aerodynamic, low-drag alloy wheels.

The charging port of the XUV700 EV is installed on the left side, in the same position as the fuel port of the ICE model. The overall outline of the rear of the car is basically the same as that of the ICE model. There could be some tweaks to the tailgate and bumper. The XUV700 EV will feature unique badge elements that highlight its electric underpinnings.

Digital cockpit experience

While the exterior may look familiar, the interior of the XUV700 EV will offer a more premium experience and several new features. One of the test vehicles was recently spotted sporting a three-screen layout that covered almost the entire length of the dashboard. The top variant of the XUV700 EV will offer such advanced features. Mahindra will focus on reducing clutter and enhancing the digital cockpit experience.

The XUV700 EV will come with advanced technological features such as 5G network capabilities and 5 Radars-1 Vision technology. The SUV is designed to support future upgrades such as L2+ autonomous driving and ADAS. The XUV700 EV will offer comprehensive connectivity features.

XUV700 EV battery, range, performance

Mahindra’s all-electric INGLO platform underpins the XUV700 EV and can support battery packs with capacities up to 80 kWh. In this case, the XUV700 EV has a cruising range of about 500 kilometers. Earlier spy shots showed a rear-mounted motor, suggesting the SUV will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive option. With fast charging of up to 175 kWh, users can charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes.

In the electric segment, Mahindra currently only offers the XUV400. The sales volume is relatively low compared to Mahindra’s popular ICE SUV. Still, even with just one electric car model in its portfolio, Mahindra has secured the third spot on the list of best-selling electric car brands in the country. This is because sales of electric vehicles have not yet reached similar levels to sales of internal combustion engine vehicles. With its inherently electric range, Mahindra is likely to improve its ranking and market share in the EV segment. Mahindra also plans to enter the petrol hybrid segment.
