- The crossover is available in a new Premium Sport trim that features a blackout design.

Mazda has announced that the CX-90 will receive a series of “customer-focused updates” for 2025. The company has also kept pricing unchanged, with the three-row crossover still starting at $37,845.

The big news is the addition of the Premium Sport trim, which starts at $46,400 and goes up to $54,900 for the plug-in hybrid model. They’re based on the Preferred but feature a black exterior with a gloss black grille, black chrome trim, and black badging. They come with 21-inch metallic black wheels as well as piano black mirrors and matching roof rails. Buyers will also find a hands-free power liftgate and a panoramic sunroof.

The interior features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. There’s also an eight-way power driver’s seat, a head-up display, and a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink.

Buyers will also find other driver assistance systems, including emergency lane keeping with blind spot assist, lane keeping assist, frontal traffic avoidance assist, secondary collision reduction, and cruise and traffic support. This model also comes with Mazda Intelligent Drive Select, and the conventionally powered model has a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg).
Other changes are limited, but the value-focused Preferred model gets a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also a new wireless smartphone charger and front and rear parking sensors.
The extra equipment comes at a cost, as the price of the CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred increases by $500 to $40,945. However, the CX-90 PHEV Preferred avoids the price increase and still starts at $49,945.
Speaking of powertrains, the model comes standard with a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine with 280 hp (209 kW / 284 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Customers can also get a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh battery pack. This setup enables the model to produce a total output of 323 horsepower (241 kW / 327 PS) and 369 pound-feet (500 Nm) of torque. What’s more, it should enable the model to travel up to 26 miles (42 kilometers) on electric power alone.
