2025 MG Astor debuts – Creta Rival with 192 BHP hybrid

In the competitive compact SUV segment, the MG Astor has always held its own in this crowded field with competitive pricing. Now, a new model, the 2025 MG Astor (ZS), has been launched overseas. Let’s take a look at what new features it has and how it compares to the existing Astor.

2025 MG Astor debuts

A few months ago, design patents for what looks like the next-generation MG ZS leaked on the internet. Recently, MG started launching the new ZS in many markets around the world. The new ZS follows the leaked design patents. While the current MG ZS (Astor in India) is a beautiful machine, the 2025 ZS feels more mature.

The internal combustion engine version of the MG ZS is sold in India as the Astor, while the electric car is sold as the ZS EV instead of the Astor EV. The new 2025 MG ZS is likely to be launched in India as the 2025 MG Astor. The updated design of the 2025 Astor will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Citroen Basalt, C3 Aircross and the upcoming Tata Curvv in India.

The competition is fierce, and the 2025 MG Astor’s revamped design language seems ready to take on the challenge. The front grille is larger, flanked by two stylish C-shaped grille elements that are likely to have a practical purpose. The MG logo is proudly emblazoned on the bumper, and the black cladding paired with a silver faux skid plate gives it a tough appeal.

The headlights are still a wraparound design but are now sleeker. The alloy wheels have a similar design theme. But they look newer and more modern. The overall silhouette is similar to the current model. There is a new, larger rear quarter glass with a new pillar design and shoulder line.

There are some shiny elements in the side profile that add sophistication and brilliance. The rear design is virtually unchanged compared to the current Astor. Silver elements in the new wraparound taillights, tailgate and rear bumper are eye-catching.

Features and powertrain

Inside, there is a new dashboard design that somehow reminds me of the Nissan Magnite. Quad AC vents, a sportier steering wheel, a wider and shorter 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a redesigned centre console, a vertically arranged charging pad, a yacht-style gear selector, a 7-inch instrument screen are some of the notable elements compared to the Astor currently sold in India.

In terms of powertrain, the 2025 MG Astor is equipped with a new powerful hybrid powertrain with a total system output peak power of 192 horsepower. The 102 horsepower 1.5L gasoline engine is matched with a 134 horsepower electric motor, which draws power from a 1.83 kWh battery pack. It is not clear whether MG Motor India will bring this hybrid powertrain to us or continue with the existing engine options.
