Compared with the new-generation Aste (ZS HEV) that has just been launched, the new 2025 MG ZS EV (ES5) has a unique appearance

The ZS EV is one of the first electric vehicles in India, offering greater real-world driving range and attracting more buyers to electric vehicles. It is MG’s first electric product and has undergone a major facelift since its launch. Now, the next-generation 2025 MG ZS EV has been unveiled, and it looks significantly more radical than before.

There’s also a new generation ZS EV, which the company calls ES5. It may be launched in India, replacing the current model. The ZS EV and Astor currently on sale look identical, except that the former has a different closed grille than the latter. This is intended to keep costs down by sharing most components and sheet metal.

However, this is not the case with the just-launched ES5 (ZS EV) and the recently launched ZS (Astor). That’s because they appear to be two different vehicles. It must be noted that the Astor is known as the ZS globally, while the ZS EV is its electric version, called the ZS EV.

The just-unveiled ES5 will replace MG’s ZS EV and is likely to be positioned as a new car rather than being called the ZS EV. As a result, there is a deviation in the naming strategy, and a very different design language and sheet metal is used. More information will be officially announced soon.

The sizes are also different. For context, the New ZS (Astor) is 4.43m long and 1.81m wide, and the ES5 (ZS EV) is 4.48m long and 1.85m wide. From the pictures alone, we can tell that the ES5 looks more sporty, but also has its own unique refinement.

Radical new design

It has not yet been determined whether ES5 will adopt the ZS EV name or be called ES5 in the future. From a design perspective, we can see a complete departure from the recently launched ZS. We have a split headlight design with a triple LED DRL logo on top and the headlight below it. The ES5’s grille has a closed design that doesn’t require a lot of airflow.

The ORVMs on the ES5 are new, as are the alloy wheels. The ES5’s sheet metal is also different from the recently launched ZS, and the window lines are also unique. At the rear of the car, the ES5 adopts a new sports spoiler design, while the ZS looks simple. The ES5 is the only model equipped with connected rear LED taillights, giving it a sportier design.

Powertrain details are unclear. Presumably, the ES5 will offer the same electric underpinnings as the MG 4 electric hatchback. This means that the lithium iron phosphate battery pack of up to 77 kWh can travel approximately 520 kilometers on a single charge. Powering the new ES5 (2025 MG ZS EV) could be a 168 bhp motor, or it could be a 201 bhp or even a 241 bhp unit.
