A key update for 2025 is the introduction of a new 22.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is slightly larger than the old model’s 20 kWh battery pack. Mitsubishi says the new Outlander PHEV can travel 53 miles (86 kilometers) on electric power alone. Fuel tank capacity has also been increased to 14 gallons (53 liters), which means the SUV can travel 524 miles (844 kilometers) on a single tank of fuel when fully charged.

The plug-in hybrid system has a number of different drive modes to choose from. For example, there is electric-only mode, series hybrid mode where the engine generates electricity when needed, and parallel hybrid mode where the electric motor and engine work in series. Drivers can also use Save Mode, which maintains battery charge, and Charge Mode, which charges the battery while driving. Like the current model, the updated Outlander PHEV continues to come standard with Type 2 and CHAdeMO plugs.

Elsewhere, Mitsubishi says it has improved the S-AWC system to maximize traction in all conditions. Chassis components have been slightly tweaked to improve handling predictability, and tires, shock absorbers and spring rates have been modified to improve ride comfort. The steering has also been improved, making it lighter when parking while providing more feedback at medium to high speeds.

From a visual perspective, the 2025 model includes a new front grille with active blinds, unique six-spoke 20-inch wheels, and tweaked taillights.

Modifications in the cabin continue. The most significant upgrade is a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen, which replaces the old 9.0-inch system and runs new and improved software. There are also new 8- and 12-speaker Yamaha sound systems and a 15-watt Qi wireless smartphone charger.

Mitsubishi has not announced specific market pricing details for the 2025 Outlander PHEV.
