Yamaha Motor India has launched the 2025 FZ-S FI hybrid, marking India’s first hybrid motorcycle in the 150cc category. Priced at INR 1,44,800 (former showroom in Delhi), the new model combines advanced technology with a refreshed design, aiming to provide better performance and fuel efficiency.
Yamaha FZ-S FI Hybrid: Powertrain and technology
The core of the FZ-S FI hybrid is a 149cc blue core engine, which is now OBD-2B compliant. Yamaha’s Smart Motor Generator (SMG) provides smoother start-up and better mileage for battery-assisted acceleration. Stop & Start System (SSS) improves fuel efficiency by automatically shutting down the engine during idle process and restarting the engine with clutch action.

The motorcycle also includes a 4.2-inch full-color TFT display, the first in the FZ series. The screen integrates with the Y-Connect app to provide turn navigation, invoking alerts and riding diagnostics via Google Maps. Optimize the handlebar position for long distance comfort, and the redesigned switches provide better accessibility when wearing gloves.
Yamaha FZ-S FI Hybrid: Design and Function
The 2025 FZ-S FI hybrid has a more aggressive look, with clearer lines on the tank cover and integrated forward turn signals within the intake area. Yamaha has also added an aircraft-style fuel cap that remains attached during refueling for added convenience. Buyers can choose between two color options: Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Gray.

Market position and competitors
The FZ-S FI hybrid competes with popular models like the Bajaj Pulsar N160 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. While Pulsar and Apache focus on raw power and aggressive styles, Yamaha’s aim is to differentiate themselves through hybrid technology, better fuel efficiency and smart connections. The addition of advanced features such as TFT displays and hybrid assist gives the FZ-S an advantage in tech-savvy urban commuting.
Yamaha’s Vision
Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, emphasized at the launch conference how the FZ brand can grow to meet customer expectations. “By introducing hybrid technology into this segment, we are improving performance while enhancing our commitment to innovation and rider-centric experience,” he said.
The final thought
With the launch of the 2025 FZ-S FI hybrid, Yamaha has boldly stepped forward with the hybrid technology used in motorcycles. The combination of improved fuel efficiency, modern features and updated design enhances its appeal in the competitive 150cc market. Whether the hybrid approach will set new trends remains to be seen, but Yamaha has clearly bet on the future.
