  • BMW has released official images of a 2026 iX prototype ahead of its launch next year.
  • The facelifted EV adopts an evolutionary design with a new angular grille.
  • The biggest upgrade is hidden, with a more efficient electric motor and improved efficiency.

Spy photographers have captured the facelifted BMW iX on several occasions, but the automaker has given them a breather by releasing official photos of the updated electric car. They revealed some changes, but they weren’t radical changes.

Starting at the front, there’s a slightly revised grille with angular lines similar to the new X3. We can also see an evolved front fascia with prominent air intakes flanked by vertical air curtains. They feature a familiar hood and updated headlights.

The rest of the design largely carries over, but some minor tweaks may be hidden under camouflage. We can also expect updates to the interior, as previous spy shots showed a camouflaged cabin.

While BMW has no comment on the facelifted crossover, these photos were released during a test drive event. BMW Blog attended and said the model features new seats that are more comfortable than its predecessors.

Some of the biggest changes are under the surface, with the publication saying the iX has upgraded electric motors with new bearings and inverters. These help improve efficiency, while tires with lower rolling resistance help improve efficiency.

These changes reportedly help make the 2026 iX 10% more efficient than the outgoing model. That’s before taking into account expected battery improvements, so it sounds like we can expect a significant increase in range.

This would be a welcome development, as the 2025 iX xDrive50 has an EPA-estimated range of 302 to 309 miles (486 to 497 kilometers), depending on wheel size. For the range-topping iX M60, those figures drop to 284 miles and 285 miles (457 kilometers and 459 kilometers).
