2026 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 mentioned in the alleged UAW

Shelby American recently went on strike with the Shelby GT350, but a new document suggests that Ford may be cooking with the Mustang Shelby GT500. Additionally, it may arrive as early as next year and fills the huge gap between the Mustang Dark Horse and the Mustang GTD.

While any claimed document is taken with a grain of salt, a recent portion of salt surfaced on Reddit, allegedly from UAW Local 600 in Dearborn, Michigan. Its members work at the Dearborn Engine Factory, Dearborn stamp and Dearborn Truck Factory.

Along with the background, the document says: “I expect an afternoon shift to be added on the niche assembly line by the end of 2025. The volume increase is for the 2026 Mustang Shelby GT500.” The unnamed writer said: “I can’t wait until we start making engines with legendary engines for iconic vehicles like this.”

Road & Track notes that the niche engine line currently has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that powers the F-150 Raptor. This may indicate that the rumored legendary engine is a variant of the same V8.

While we probably shouldn’t read too much at the moment, the Mustang GTD has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 that produces 815 hp (608 kW/826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 nm) of torque. On the other hand, the old Shelby GT500 has a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 of 760 hp (567 kW/771 PS) and a 625 lb-ft (846 nm) torque.
