Electric vehicles (EVs) are increasingly popular among buyers due to their lower maintenance and running costs, reduced emissions and tax benefits. Tata Motors currently dominates the space with its products including Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, Nexon.ev, Punch.ev and Curvv.ev. OEMs like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Honda are also gearing up to join the bandwagon in the near future with a range of electric SUVs. Here are the key details of the upcoming electric SUVs, which are scheduled to launch in January 2025.
Electric SUV to be launched in January 2025
Maruti e-Vitara
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara will be the Indo-Japanese carmaker’s first electric product in India. The model will make its public debut at the Bharat Mobile Expo next month. Hyundai Creta electric car

The automaker will introduce some EV-focused design changes inside and out. The electric Creta will get a new round three-spoke steering wheel and seat upholstery with ‘CRETA Electric’ embossing. Similar to the ICE, it will feature a dual-screen setup, a center console with a button panel, and the same dashboard design. The Creta EV will be Hyundai’s first mass-market electric car, competing with the Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
Mahindra BE 6/XUV 9e
Mahindra & Mahindra will launch two new electric SUVs – BE 6 and XUV 9e – in early 2025. The automaker revealed that the entry-level model Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9e (first pack) are priced at Rs 18.90,000 and Rs 21.90,000 respectively. The full price list will be announced during its public debut at the Bharat Mobile Expo next month.
Both EVs will come with two battery packs – 59kWh and 79kWh – powered by LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells. The smaller battery pack delivers 228bhp of maximum power and 380Nm of torque, with ARAI claiming a range of 556km. The larger battery version produces 281 horsepower and offers an ARAI claimed range of 682 kilometers. These SUVs feature three driving modes: Range, Daily and Race. Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9e can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using the 175kW DC fast charger.
