
Dianna Cardenas is the Event Sales Manager at the American Council on Clean Power (ACP). She is part of the business development team responsible for exhibit and sponsorship sales for the RECHARGE: Energy Storage, Siting and Permitting Conference. Dianna received her BA in International and Global Studies with a minor in Political Science from Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, and her MA in International and Global Studies with a concentration in Negotiation and Conflict Management from the University of Salamanca.
Prior to joining ACP, Dianna served as a Membership and Marketing Assistant for the National Association of University Attorneys (NACUA) and worked with DARPA as a researcher for the New America’s Natural Resource Security Program.
When she’s not working, Diane enjoys baking, trying new restaurants, and walking around her neighborhood. She’s originally from San Antonio, Texas, but now lives in Washington, D.C. She loves exploring the East Coast without having to drive!
Here, Diana shares how she benefited from gaining the CEM qualification and how she was able to apply what she learned straight away.
How has the CEM qualification helped you in your career?
CEM has helped me gain a deep understanding of the inner workings of the industry. The conversations during the face-to-face courses have been extremely valuable and a highlight of my career.
Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?
Maintaining the CEM designation will allow me to keep up with industry trends.
What made you want to earn the CEM designation?
Seeing my colleagues have CEM and the knowledge they possess inspires me to take the next step and grow in my career.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to apply for the CEM program?
I enjoyed my time participating in CEM week as it allowed me to fully engage in the course and network with industry leaders.
How did you start working in this industry?
My career in the events industry began with a local nonprofit coordinating its annual gala and sponsorships, eventually moving into the association world where I now oversee sponsorship and exhibit sales for multiple events.
How have you used the knowledge gained from qualifying as a CEM to make a difference in your performances or when working with clients?
It allows me to gain deeper insights into my clients’ needs more strategically, which they appreciate and helps us strengthen our relationships.
What did you do or implement after getting the CEM?
Conducting strategic analysis of my work and applying all the knowledge I gain directly to my job.
What do you like most about the CEM study program?
The opportunity to network with others in the industry and apply lessons to my work.
