With a retractable roof covering 10,076.2 square meters, it is the largest retractable roof in China and has 50,000 auditorium seats. The stadium has the largest opening and closing roof in China and is a comprehensive building integrating sports competitions, national fitness, leisure and entertainment.

Construction of the project began on March 10, 2009 and was completed on August 30, 2011, with a total investment of 1.44 billion yuan.
