With the addition of CNG, Nexon will become the first SUV in India to offer four fuel options

Similar to the strategy deployed by Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors is also expanding its CNG portfolio. One of the focus areas is “premiumisation of CNG”, wherein the CNG option will be offered to premium models and variants. The latest spy shots by car enthusiast Mihir Patel offer a close look at the production-spec exterior of the Nexon CNG. Let’s take a look.

The ‘CNG premiumization’ strategy also ensures that Tata’s i-CNG vehicles come in dual-cylinder kits, which have better packaging than the conventional single-cylinder CNG kits. As part of this strategy, the Nexon will soon get a CNG option. The just-launched Curvv is also expected to get a CNG option.

The Tata Nexon CNG looks and feels much the same as the Nexon petrol model. The SUV has always wooed users with its eye-catching design. The facelifted model launched last year featured a more refined and sophisticated styling. The Nexon CNG will feature a dynamic stance, stylish lighting elements, sequential LED daytime running lights, a raised bonnet and X-factor taillights with welcome and goodbye features. While this test car came with steel wheels, higher trims will get alloy wheels with Aero inserts.

The first SUV equipped with a CNG-Turbo combination

The CNG option of the Nexon will be available with the 1.2L turbocharged Revotron engine. Hence, the Nexon will be the first SUV to use a CNG-turbo combination. This powertrain option will also come to the Curvv SUV. However, the Nexon is likely to get it first. When running on petrol, the 1.2-litre turbocharged engine produces 120 PS and 170 Nm. It is available with 5MT, 6MT, 6AMT and 7DCA gearbox options.

Nexon CNG interior

The interior features are largely the same as the petrol version of the Nexon. Key highlights include a two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo, a new-generation touchscreen and a tri-tone instrument panel with leatherette mid-pads. The top-of-the-line variant of the Nexon gets premium Benecke Kalikotm ventilated leatherette seats, a cooled glovebox, an air purifier, fully automatic temperature control and rear AC vents.

In line with Tata’s CNG premiumisation plan, the top-of-the-line variant of the Nexon will be available with a CNG option. Other premium features offered on the Nexon include Harman’s 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with driver attention assist.

Nexon comes with a power sunroof with voice commands, wireless charger, and JBL premium sound system. Various connectivity features are available through the iRA app. Safety kit includes features like front parking sensors, 360° surround view system, blind view monitor, automatic headlights with rain sensing wipers, and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Nexon CNG release date, price

As there is a huge demand for CNG cars, Tata will launch the Nexon CNG soon. Considering the starting price of the petrol model is Rs 8 lakh, the price of the Nexon CNG is likely to be around Rs 90,000 more. Once launched, the Nexon CNG will compete primarily with the Maruti Brezza CNG.
